Circus is not only a demanding and demanding field of performance, but it is also a dangerous one that can lead to fatal accidents at any time, despite strict safety measures. There have been many terrible incidents on the circus stage throughout history.

Most fatal accidents or serious injuries occur during acrobatics or high-wire acts, or are caused by animal attacks or faulty safety equipment. However, sometimes a sudden fire can destroy everything.

A typical example is the incident involving the Hartford Circus that occurred on July 6, 1944. A fire suddenly spread and engulfed the tent where the circus was performing, killing 169 people and injuring more than 700.

High-wire acrobatics are always dangerous.

Similar to the recent death of the Chinese artist, the world circus industry recorded the accident of Dessi Espana - a tightrope acrobat at the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus. The incident occurred in May 2004, Dessi Espana fell from a height of 10 meters to the ground due to incorrect technique, leading to a tragic death in the hospital due to severe injuries.

Another tragedy occurred in 1872 when acrobats Fred Lazelle and Billy Millson of The St Louis Trapeze Circus fell while hanging from a tightrope. Worse, they fell onto another artist below, seriously injuring all three.

In 1962, a terrible accident occurred when the artists of The Flying Wallendas, a group of the Wallenda family circus, were balancing on a tightrope, arranged in a pyramid of 7 people. One person faltered, causing 3 to fall to the ground, 2 later died, and the other was disabled for life.

Just a little carelessness can cost artists their lives.

Acrobatic artist Sarah Guyard-Guillot of the world-famous Cirque de Soleil fell from a height of 30 meters on June 29, 2013 and died on the way to the hospital. This is also listed as one of the most terrible accidents in the history of the world circus industry.

In May 2014, eight acrobats performed a stunt in Providence, Rhode Island, in front of 3,000 spectators. They formed a human-shaped chandelier, all suspended by their hair from a ring. Suddenly, the wire holding the ring together snapped, sending all eight plummeting 15 to 20 feet to the ground.

As a result, two people suffered spinal injuries, five had broken bones, one had a lacerated liver... but fortunately no one died. Two of the eight returned to work six months later. The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined the circus $7,000 for failing to ensure safe installation of performance equipment.

However, the most terrible accident was the attack by a wild animal. A lion tamer was attacked by a pride during a performance in Bolton, England on January 3, 1872. Massarti was torn to pieces by the lions in front of hundreds of spectators watching live. The incident is still remembered as one of the most tragic accidents in the history of the world circus.
