Hai Phong candidate got 26.65 points in block B00 but failed graduation?

On July 17, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the 2024 high school graduation exam scores.

According to Dan Tri newspaper 's analysis of exam score data published by the Ministry of Education and Training, many candidates scored 20 points or more in university entrance exams but received a failing score (the prescribed level is 1 point or less) in one of the exam subjects.

Most notable is the case of candidate with registration number 0301721XX at the Examination Council of the Department of Education and Training of Hai Phong.

This candidate's scores are 8.4 in math; 9 in literature; 6.8 in foreign language; 1 in physics; 9.5 in chemistry; and 8.75 in biology. Because he got a score of 1 in physics, this candidate will not be eligible for recognition of high school graduation.

This is regrettable because if we consider block B00 (math, chemistry, biology combination), this candidate achieved 26.65 points; in the top 3,000 candidates with the highest scores nationwide in the traditional block taking the entrance exam to medical universities.

In block D01 (math, literature, English), this candidate also achieved 24.2 points - a score that can be admitted to many famous universities.

Besides this candidate, statistics also show that many other candidates with high scores are also at risk of failing the graduation exam. Typically, a candidate with registration number 400206xx of the Dak Lak Provincial Examination Council also left many concerns.

This candidate got 8 in math; 9.75 in literature; 0 in foreign language; 9.25 in history; 9.5 in geography; and 9.75 in civics.

Despite the very high score, this candidate is currently showing a score of 0 in the foreign language subject.

If applying for block C00 (literature, history, geography), this candidate scored 27.5 points. In block C20 (literature, geography, civic education), this candidate scored 28 points. If applying for block C19 (literature, history, civic education), this candidate scored 27.75 points. These are all very high scores and are among the candidates with the highest scores nationwide.

However, this candidate can still graduate if he or she is exempted from the foreign language exam. This happened in the 2023 graduation exam when 4 candidates from Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Nam Dinh, had the highest university entrance score of 27.75 points but failed the foreign language exam.

The reason is that these candidates were exempted from the foreign language exam, but during the data entry and procedure process, there were errors that caused the graduation exam score announcement system to still display the candidates' English score as 0 points.

According to current regulations, a failing score is a score of 1 point or less. If any exam receives a failing score, the candidate will be immediately assessed as failing and will no longer be eligible to graduate.

Therefore, all exams and component subjects of the graduation recognition combination must score above 1.0 points. If the score is 1.0 or less than 1 point, it will be considered a failing score.
