Legend has it that more than 700 years ago, when King Tran Nhan Tong came to Yen Tu to practice, he planted the first yellow apricot trees on the mountain with Buddhist followers. After many years, under the care of Buddhist followers and the favor of nature, the small apricot trees have now become the giant yellow apricot trees of Yen Tu.

According to researchers, although in the same family as the Southern yellow apricot, due to differences in weather and terrain, Yen Tu yellow apricot is also different in morphology.

If the Southern yellow apricot flower has many petals, light yellow color, no fragrance, on the contrary, Yen Tu forest apricot flower has 5 petals, blooms in clusters, green buds, the petals are very bright yellow and have a characteristic light, pleasant fragrance.

Currently, Yen Tu yellow apricot grows and develops at an altitude of about 500m above sea level, the most concentrated areas are Hoa Yen pagoda, Mot Mai pagoda, Vang waterfall...

According to the inventory data of the Yen Tu National Forest and Monument Management Board, there are currently 268 yellow apricot trees growing at an altitude of over 500m above sea level. In particular, in the old forest, there are 20 apricot trees over 100 years old that are recognized as heritage trees.
