On the afternoon of October 5, the Provincial Farmers' Association organized for nearly 50 officials and farmer members from 3 communes of Gia Hoa, Gia Phu, Gia Thinh (Gia Vien district) to visit and learn from some environmentally friendly waste treatment models in Da Han village (Gia Hoa commune).
This is one of the specific activities within the framework of the Project "Propaganda and mobilization of farmers to treat waste in Vietnam, contributing to the international community's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions" implemented by the Provincial Farmers' Association from June 2023.
Accordingly, the delegation visited the model of fermenting crop by-products for animal feed at Mr. Nguyen Van Thu's family. From agricultural by-products such as straw, stubble, grass, etc., through the fermentation process with beneficial microorganisms, soft, spongy products are produced to help supplement nutrition for livestock, while also helping to replace green roughage during the grass shortage season.
The delegation also visited the earthworm farming model of Ms. Bui Thi Lan's family. Earthworms are animals that easily adapt to the environment and have a fast reproduction rate. The farming materials are utilized right on the farm such as livestock manure, straw, corn stalks, etc.
Raising earthworms not only provides a source of nutritious food for livestock, but waste from earthworms is also a natural organic fertilizer, rich in nutrients and microorganisms, suitable for all types of crops, thereby limiting the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in agricultural production.
The tour is an opportunity for officials and farmer members of communes in Gia Vien district to exchange and share experiences in organic waste treatment, thereby raising awareness, changing behavior, expanding the application of waste conversion measures, contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting the environment and developing modern, sustainable agriculture.
