After 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations, the relationship between Vietnam and Korea has been upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership, achieving many remarkable achievements, especially in the economic field. Korea is currently the largest direct investor in Vietnam.
According to Mr. Vu Ho, Vietnamese Ambassador to Korea, the digital economy is the goal of countries, including Korea and Vietnam. In 2022, Korea announced its digital strategy with the goal of becoming a country with the best practices in digital innovation and moving towards becoming a leading country in the digital era. Vietnam has also issued a national digital transformation strategy early and is considered a country with strong digital economic development in both infrastructure and business market.
"Agencies and businesses of the two countries will share and cooperate closely to find solutions to the challenges each country faces, together achieving the goals of the two countries," said Mr. Vu Ho.
VINASA Chairman Nguyen Van Khoa emphasized that Korea is a very potential market for Vietnamese IT enterprises. The total size of the Korean 'IT outsourcing' market is up to more than 600 billion USD, and this figure is forecast to reach about 800 billion USD by 2028.
To date, more than 10 Vietnamese digital technology enterprises have opened offices and invested in Korea, typically FPT, CMC, NTQ Solutions, OmiGroup, etc. Vietnamese digital technology enterprises are cooperating and providing services to both large enterprises as well as small and medium enterprises in Korea. In particular, some enterprises have brought Made in Vietnam digital technology solutions to provide in the Korean market.
Recognizing and praising the pioneering spirit of business investment in Korea of FPT Korea, NTQ Solution Korea and CMC Korea, within the framework of the Vietnam - Korea Digital Forum, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung awarded certificates of merit to these three enterprises.
Promoting cooperation in developing digital human resources
According to the Organizing Committee, the purpose of the Vietnam - Korea Digital Forum 2024 is to create opportunities for the Vietnamese digital technology business community to connect, trade, share needs and seek cooperation opportunities with international partners in key markets. The main activities of the forum include seminars, exhibitions, signing of bilateral cooperation agreements and '1:1' cooperation connections between Vietnamese digital technology businesses and international partners.
Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, Chairman of VINASA and Mr. Joh. Joon Hee, Chairman of KOSA also agreed that both sides wish to make the Vietnam - Korea digital forum an annual connection space between enterprises operating in the IT field of Vietnam and Korea.
Notably, the speakers attending the forum all had high expectations for the ability to cooperate in training and developing high-quality human resources suitable to the needs of the Korean market, and at the same time deploy cooperation models to both train and use these high-quality human resources effectively.
According to the Korea ICT Cooperation Agency, to ensure the best digital capabilities, Korea will need 740,000 IT personnel in the next 5 years. With the current training capacity, Korea will lack about 490,000 workers. Korea's digital strategy sets specific goals for human resource training such as nurturing 100,000 cybersecurity talents from 2022 and establishing 2,000 new software service companies by 2027.
The prospects for cooperation in training and developing digital human resources have been demonstrated through the agreements and memorandums of understanding signed by the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) under the Ministry of Information and Communications with Korean partners within the framework of the forum. Specifically, in addition to the cooperation agreement with Seoul Cyber University on officially implementing a joint training program according to the digital university model, PTIT also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korean Game Association in the field of ICT and research and training in the game industry.
In addition, the potential for cooperation between Vietnamese and Korean enterprises in many other fields has also been concretized through other contracts and memorandums of understanding signed at the forum.
Specifically: FPT IS and SK C&C will cooperate to develop technology solutions and green transformation services for global enterprise customers, focusing mainly on Vietnam, Korea and ASEAN; NTQ Solution will accompany MarkAny to research and develop a set of security solutions to help businesses operate production safely, meeting the increasing demand for information security in the digital age; Ominext and DeepNoid - the leading enterprise in artificial intelligence in healthcare in Korea, agreed to cooperate to build an integrated IT solution platform for hospitals in the Vietnamese healthcare market.
