On the afternoon of January 5, the Government Office held a regular Government press conference for December 2023 to provide information on the socio-economic situation in 2023. Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Tran Van Son, Government Spokesperson, chaired the meeting.

Speaking at the opening of the Conference, the Government spokesperson said that in general, the socio-economic situation in 2023 continued to have a positive recovery trend, basically achieving the general goal of persistently stabilizing the macro-economy, controlling inflation, promoting growth, and ensuring major balances of the economy.

In addition, social security and people's lives have improved; anti-corruption and anti-negativity work has been promoted; national defense and security have been consolidated and enhanced; foreign affairs and international integration have achieved comprehensive results; people's trust in the Party and State has been enhanced.

The macro economy is basically stable, inflation is under control, and major balances are guaranteed. The average consumer price index in 2023 increased by 3.25%. The money market, exchange rate, and foreign exchange are basically stable, and the interest rate level has decreased by about 2% compared to the end of 2022.

State budget deficit, indicators of public debt, government debt, and national foreign debt are lower than the permitted limit. Major balances are guaranteed. Despite many difficulties in the domestic and international situation, state budget revenue exceeded the estimate by 8.12%; trade surplus was 28 billion USD; more than 8.3 million tons of rice were exported; energy security was guaranteed; labor supply and demand were basically guaranteed.

Economic growth in the following quarter was higher than the previous quarter, although it did not reach the set target, it was a bright spot in the global economy. GDP for the whole year of 2023 increased by 5.05%, among the highest in the region and the world.

All three regions have developed well. Of which, agriculture has increased the most in over 10 years; industry has recovered well; services have developed vigorously, tourism has recovered, welcoming 12.6 million international visitors - far exceeding the target of 8 million visitors.

Development investment continued to achieve positive results. Total social investment capital increased by 6.2%; disbursement of public investment capital reached 95% of the plan, higher than the same period (91.42%); FDI attraction reached 36.6 billion USD, up 32.1%; realized FDI capital reached 23.18 billion USD, the highest ever.

Besides, social security, employment, transportation development, culture, education... also achieved good results.

Striving for 130,000 social housing units by 2024

Mr. Tran Van Son also informed that the Government will continue to effectively implement the Central Resolution on social policies. Resolutely and effectively implement the Project to invest in the construction of at least 1,000,000 social housing apartments. Strive to complete at least 130,000 apartments by 2024.

Affirming that the results achieved are fundamental, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also noted that we must not be subjective or complacent because there are still many shortcomings, limitations, difficulties and challenges that need to be overcome and resolved in the coming time, such as: The world situation continues to develop in a complicated and unpredictable manner, affecting our country; The international market is narrowing, production and business, and credit access are difficult; High-quality human resources are still limited; The lives of a part of the people are still difficult; Security, order and social safety in some areas are complicated...

At the conference, answering the press about ensuring security and order during the upcoming Tet holiday, Lieutenant General To An Xo (spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security) said that the fight against corruption and negativity in 2023 is considered a bright spot of the entire political system. In which the police are the main force. The Ministry of Public Security always advocates the spirit of the rule of law, no forbidden areas, no exceptions, solving a case is a warning to the whole region.

For example, stock market manipulation is FLC, policy manipulation is the vehicle inspection case, bond violations are Tan Hoang Minh... Breaking these typical cases makes those with intentions in that field not dare, or hesitate.

During the upcoming Lunar New Year, the Ministry of Public Security has also made plans to ensure public order and security. In particular, the police force will continue to focus on handling cases of alcohol violations during the holiday.

Regarding security and order, local police have organized a peak period of attacks and suppression of crime, from December 15 to February 29, the police force proactively grasped the situation, ensuring absolute safety in key areas. Regarding the plan to attack and suppress organized crime, black credit, property robbery, drug trafficking... will continue to be promoted.
