On July 27, the leaders of the Hue Ancient Citadel Relics Conservation Center announced that the agency and the Da Nang City Department of Culture and Sports have basically agreed on a plan to reopen the Hai Van Pass to visitors.
Accordingly, it is expected that on August 1, 2024, the Hai Van Pass historical site will begin welcoming visitors and will temporarily offer free entry to locals and tourists until a suitable ticket price list is established.
According to the Hue Ancient Citadel Conservation Center, despite the completion of restoration and readiness to welcome visitors, the Hai Van Pass historical site is currently facing many difficulties in operating and serving tourism . The site still lacks tourism infrastructure such as parking lots, ticket booths, workspaces for tour guides and security guards, and souvenir shops.
Furthermore, due to its location at an altitude of over 500m above sea level, the technical infrastructure has not been developed comprehensively. The site's remote location results in limited mobile phone and internet coverage, and the shortage of personnel makes management difficult.
Previously, on December 19, 2021, the Hue Imperial Citadel Relics Conservation Center, in coordination with the Da Nang City Department of Culture and Sports, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project to preserve, restore, and promote the value of the Hai Van Pass relic.
The total investment for the project is over 42 billion VND, funded 50% by the Da Nang city budget and 50% by the Thua Thien Hue provincial budget. The project is scheduled for completion within 2 years.
Hai Van Pass, built in 1826, is known to be a military outpost guarding the summit of Hai Van Pass, right on the border between Thua Thien Hue province and Da Nang city.
This site holds significant cultural and historical value and is also a famous landmark, contributing to the tourism development of both localities. The site was also classified as a National Monument by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2017.
