According to many residents of the Muong Thanh Vien Trieu tourist apartment complex located opposite Hon Chong beach in Nha Trang, most people who went swimming here in the past few days had itchy and red eyes.
On the afternoon of June 24, a representative of residents in Muong Thanh Vien Trieu area said that the situation of swimming at Hon Chong Nha Trang beach with the above symptoms has decreased a little, but still causes itching for many people.
Someone reported that the past few days, the family's 3 children got itchy rashes all over their bodies when they went swimming at Hon Chong beach, and the medicine hasn't gone away.
According to another parent, the family's child also had many itchy rashes and a fever after swimming at Hon Chong beach in Nha Trang.
Parents worried about dengue fever, had to take their children to the hospital and the doctor gave them a blood test but it was not dengue fever but an infection.
While the situation of bathing in Hon Chong Nha Trang beach with symptoms of disease causing itching, red eyes in many residents, especially children as mentioned above, has not been concerned by local authorities to consider the cause for handling, recommendations, many people advise each other not to go swimming in Hon Chong beach on hot sunny days with heavy thunderstorms.
The reason, according to many people, is that Nha Trang sea water at Hon Chong is heavily polluted. Others think it is due to being bitten by jellyfish or hairy sea worms while swimming or bathing in the sea.
In fact, from 2018 to now, Tuoi Tre Online has repeatedly reported and reflected the situation of wastewater from the drainage system of Nha Trang City in the northern area having repeatedly drained and overflowed into Nha Trang sea at different locations of surface and underground sewers, from Ba Lang to the location adjacent to the foot of Hon Chong hill on the east side of Pham Van Dong street, especially during the first rains of the season or heavy rains.
Doctor of Science NGUYEN TAC AN - former director of the Institute of Oceanography:
Polluted seawater contains many microorganisms that cause itching at Hon Chong Nha Trang
Faced with the above complaints and information, Tuoi Tre Online asked Dr. Nguyen Tac An for his opinion on the possible causes of itchy rashes and red eyes like the ones people are experiencing while swimming at Hon Chong Nha Trang.

Mr. Nguyen Tac An discussed first, we must see if there are any more sources of waste discharged into the sea in the Hon Chong area. Waste sources are one of the causes of pollution and contamination of seawater.
In contaminated water sources there are many microorganisms that cause itching, especially when the environmental temperature increases as it has happened in recent days.
Besides, there are also jellyfish in this season, which can be a combined cause of itching. But the main cause is the untreated wastewater discharged into Nha Trang sea in the area.
Still following Doctor of Science Nguyen Tac An, maybe the sea water at Hon Chong was polluted before but at a light level, people could not feel it.
When the weather is hot, the source of waste that contaminates the seawater with bacteria increases, causing such an impact that people who swim in the sea feel itchy rashes and red eyes...
About the cause, according to Doctor of Science Nguyen Tac An, previously Tuoi Tre newspaper also reported many times about the situation of wastewater being dumped into the sea, causing pollution of the marine environment in the Hon Chong area of Nha Trang. Therefore, it seems that "the cause is too clear", according to him.
Therefore, the problem is how to handle to minimize and end that situation, requiring the attention of local authorities and relevant agencies of Nha Trang City and Khanh Hoa Province.
