Regarding the child abuse case at Hoa Hong Shelter (To Ky Street, Trung My Tay Ward, District 12), at noon on September 4, Mr. Le Van Thinh, Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (LĐ-TB-XH) of Ho Chi Minh City, quickly informed reporters of the Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper.
As of noon on September 4, authorities were still checking the Rose Shelter.
The Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City said that immediately after receiving the information, on the morning of September 4, the department directed two specialized departments of the department, the Department of Social Protection and the Department of Child Protection - Care and Gender Equality of Shelters, to coordinate with the functional forces of District 12 to conduct a direct inspection.
"After the inspection, we have a plan to take the children to a public center managed by the department for care and health protection. At the same time, the department will conduct a general review and inspection of private facilities and shelters in the city," Mr. Thinh emphasized.
Regarding the incident, the Ho Chi Minh City Association for the Protection of Children’s Rights has also just issued a document condemning the act of child abuse. According to the Ho Chi Minh City Association for the Protection of Children’s Rights, the content and images reported in the press show that the act of child abuse and mistreatment has occurred many times and over a long period of time. In particular, this act was carried out by the staff at the Rose Shelter.
In order to protect the rights of children as stipulated in the Law on Children 2016, the association requests the People's Committee of District 12, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of District 12, and the Police of District 12 to promptly take measures to ensure the safety of children being managed, cared for and raised at Hoa Hong Shelter. At the same time, take timely measures to deal with those who have committed acts of violence and abuse against children, to avoid similar situations.
Earlier, on the morning of September 4, the press reported on child abuse at the Rose Shelter. The incident angered many people because of the brutal actions of the staff at the shelter, beating and abusing children aged 1-2 years old.
