According to statistics from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the number of Hanoi students using foreign language certificates to be exempted from foreign language exams and considered for high school graduation recognition is increasing.
In 2019, the whole city had about 5,000 students with foreign language certificates used to consider recognizing high school graduation.
In 2020 - about 7,000 students, in 2021 - more than 10,000 students, in 2022 - more than 13,000 students and this year is 15,991 students (3 times higher than in 2019). "This shows that this is a subject that is increasingly interested in students, students study with good quality", the Department of Education and Training assessed.

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates who achieve an international language certificate IELTS 4.0 or higher will be exempted from the Foreign Language exam for high school graduation in 2023. In addition, candidates can choose one of seven languages including English, Russian, French, Chinese, German, Japanese and Korean without having to register the language studied in school to be exempted from the Foreign Language graduation exam.
The Ministry also clearly stipulates cases where candidates are exempted from the foreign language exam. Students who are members of the national team participating in the International Foreign Language Olympiad or have valid foreign language certificates that are valid until at least June 27 will be exempted from the exam in the consideration of high school graduation recognition.
Candidates who are exempted from the foreign language exam for high school graduation can still register to take the foreign language exam to get the results for university and college admission.
