The proposal was updated by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport in the report evaluating the results of the implementation of restricting sleeper buses from entering the inner city of Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the Department of Transport, after more than 5 months of banning sleeper buses from entering the inner city from 6am to 10pm, traffic on the beltways and inner city areas of Ho Chi Minh City has become more stable than before. However, the Department has noticed that some parking lots have appeared inside the inner city area such as: Parking lot on Le Co Street (opposite 13 Le Co, about 50m from Kinh Duong Vuong Street) and Parking lot No. 39 (at the intersection of National Highway 1 - Road No. 7 - Road No. 18 (Binh Tan District).
At the same time, illegal parking lots (illegal stations) have emerged on corridor and belt roads such as the main road area of Rach Chiec Sports Complex; Tam Binh Gas Station, Hung Nghia Gas Station on National Highway 1 through Thu Duc City and some suburban areas...
In addition, individuals and transport businesses set up gathering points (illegal stations) and use shuttle buses to transport passengers to the gathering points, affecting the general traffic situation and the operation of bus stations in the city.
In order to ensure traffic safety on corridor routes and belt routes that restrict sleeper buses from entering the inner city, the City Department of Transport requests bus station management units to strengthen management measures and closely coordinate with competent forces to handle the situation of sleeper buses circulating and dropping off passengers in violation of regulations.
Ho Chi Minh City Police, Thu Duc City People's Committee and districts have directed and increased the deployment of forces to regularly patrol, control and strictly handle violations, especially acts of driving into prohibited areas and stopping and parking on beltways and corridors to pick up and drop off passengers in violation of regulations. The Department also requested localities to have plans to rectify the operation of illegal parking lots outside the announced list in the management area.
In the long term, the Department of Transport proposes to adjust the current ban on sleeper buses entering the inner city from 6am to 10pm to a 24/7 ban.
For inter-provincial passenger buses operating at Mien Tay Bus Station, the Department recommends allowing sleeper buses to operate without time restrictions on routes approved by the provinces in the route operation documents.
After being approved by the City People's Committee, the Department of Transport will install traffic signs on the routes belonging to the fixed route to and from Mien Tay Bus Station.
