After Thanh Nien's reflection, candidates taking the competency assessment test have their scores corrected?

Many candidates only scored 16/300 points in the natural science section, even though they took the A and B exams, their second round of competency assessment scores were revised after Thanh Nien 's reflection.

From 16 to 206/300 points

That is the case of NT, a student of Long An High School for the Gifted (Tan An City), after looking up the second round of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's capacity assessment test scores on the information portal this morning, June 13. This helped the candidate's total score increase to nearly 900, an extremely competitive score for top majors. Previously, the female student taking the B block exam only got 16/300 points in the natural sciences section despite getting 256/300 points in math-logic-data analysis.

Not only NT, many other candidates in the same situation also had their scores corrected, including all the cases Thanh Nien reported. Previously, although these candidates took the natural sciences exam and achieved high scores in math-logic-data analysis, they all only got 16/300 points in natural sciences, which is exactly 1-2/30 questions. Not to mention, Ho Chi Minh City National University also added 1 point to this question for all candidates due to technical errors.

According to a quick survey by Thanh Nien , whether or not they submitted a request for a re-examination of their scores, many candidates who shared 16/300 natural science scores had their scores corrected, as early as last night (June 12), according to a candidate taking the D7 exam in Ho Chi Minh City. "I haven't had time to submit a request for a re-examination, nor have I seen any announcement from Ho Chi Minh City National University, but around 11:30 p.m. last night, I checked and saw that the scores had been updated," said this candidate.

Many surveyed cases also increased their scores "hugely" like NT. For example, Le Thien An, a student at Nguyen Chi Thanh High School (HCMC), broke through to 200/300 points after being revised from 16 points. Or Nguyen Quang Minh, a student at Ly Tu Trong High School (Nha Trang City), achieved a score of 177 and raised his total score from 668 to 829, helping candidates feel more confident when considering the chemical engineering major at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.

"Previously, after receiving 16 points in natural science despite taking the B block exam, I submitted an application for a review to Ho Chi Minh City National University. Hopefully I will continue to have the opportunity to increase my score," Minh shared.

Previously, Thanh Nien recorded many candidates studying natural sciences but all achieved 16/300 points in this exam, which was considered "unreasonable" by the candidates.

Ho Chi Minh City National University has not made any official announcement to candidates even though the scores have been corrected.

Notably, all surveyed candidates said that Ho Chi Minh City National University has not sent any official announcement via email or on mass media channels about updating the second round of competency assessment test scores. Only when they looked it up themselves did these candidates know that their natural science scores had been changed.

Many other candidates hope to have their scores increased to match their real results.

Previously, as Thanh Nien reported, hundreds of candidates, including those who only scored 16/300 points in natural sciences, wanted to review their second round of competency assessment scores after receiving their scores on June 10. According to our survey of 257 candidates, there were 3 main reasons why candidates wanted to review.

Firstly, after consulting the suggested answers of some units, candidates said that they had been deducted more points than expected. Secondly, many candidates said that although they answered the same questions as their friends, these people got higher scores. Finally, candidates said that the scores in some exams such as natural sciences, social sciences... could not be as low as the results they just received, the reason is that they took the high school graduation exam in related groups such as C (social sciences) or A, B (natural sciences).

The survey results also showed that 249/257 candidates who responded had applied for a review or were considering it. Of these, 62.6% were "absolutely certain" that their scores would be raised after the review; the three groups of candidates who said they were most often mismarked were social sciences (61.1%), Vietnamese (50.2%), and natural sciences (43.6%). 235 respondents, or 91.4%, also said that this was their second time taking the competency assessment exam in 2024.

Up to now, only candidates with 16/300 points in natural sciences have had their exam results corrected. Meanwhile, other candidates who have submitted appeals told Thanh Nien that their scores are still being kept the same. "The 16 points must have been an error so they were corrected first, but the appeals still have to wait until the 20th for the official results," said Nguyen Cat Tuong, a former student of Thai Binh Duong University (Nha Trang City) who has just taken two rounds of competency assessments.

Candidates also hope that Ho Chi Minh City National University can extend the schedule for additional registration/adjustment of wishes (June 15) and admission and announcement of successful candidates (expected before June 24). Because the results of the review will be announced on June 20, 5 days after the time for additional registration/adjustment of wishes ends, many candidates are worried about missing the opportunity.

Candidate taking the second round of the competency assessment test: 'I think my score this time will be very high'

Currently, there are 109 educational institutions registered to use the results of the competency assessment exam organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University for admission, including: 9 member units of this University and 91 universities and 9 colleges outside the system. 68 units inside and outside the Ho Chi Minh City National University system participate in the online admission registration system with 1,747 majors for candidates to register their wishes.
