Specifically, the fifth generation of leaf rollers has begun to hatch and lay eggs. It is expected that the larvae of this generation will hatch from August 8 to 12; stem borers and white-backed planthoppers are causing scattered damage; bacterial leaf blight and bacterial stripe disease have appeared and caused local damage to early-season rice in some communes: Hong Lac (Thanh Ha), Cao Thang and Tu Cuong (Thanh Mien)... Meanwhile, the alternating sunny and rainy weather has created favorable conditions for pests and diseases on rice to increase in density and cause damage.
To limit damage caused by pests, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection recommends that local agricultural sectors direct farmers to actively inspect fields and prevent and control rice pests in a timely and effective manner.
For small leaf rollers, when detecting a density of 20 larvae/ m2 or more on early season tea or 50 larvae/ m2 or more on mid-season tea, spray immediately. Spraying should be done at the right time when the larvae have just hatched or are still in the first or second instar stages. For white-backed planthoppers, spraying should be done in areas with high density of white-backed planthoppers, especially areas with black-striped dwarf disease pressure in the communes of Hiep Cat, An Lam, Nam Hung, Nam Dien, Hop Tien (Nam Sach) and Cong Hoa, Thuong Vu, Co Dung, Tuan Viet (Kim Thanh)... For stem borers, when detecting rice with a wilted stalk rate of 5-10% or more, spray immediately with one of the drugs containing the active ingredients Chlorantraniliprole, Cartap Hydrochloride...
For bacterial leaf blight and bacterial stripe disease, farmers should not use single nitrogen fertilizer to limit the disease; when detecting early disease in rice, they should urgently spray pesticides. Regularly check the fields and kill rats using traditional manual methods such as hunting rats, fumigating, setting traps... Farmers absolutely do not kill rats with electricity.
