According to the synthesis of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, from April 29 to May 1, the whole province sprayed pesticides to prevent and control small leaf rollers and some other pests and diseases on 71,600 hectares of spring rice, reaching 96.6% of the area that needed spraying.

Farmers in Kien Xuong district spray pesticides to prevent and control pests on spring rice.

Because this year's spring crop has a very high density of small leaf rollers (6 times higher than the 2023 spring crop and 2 times higher than the 2023 summer-autumn crop), the agricultural sector recommends that localities spray again 3-5 days after the first spray for rice areas with a density of 20 insects/ m2 or more. The estimated area that needs to be sprayed a second time in the whole province is about 60,000 hectares, mainly concentrated in rice fields that have flowered after May 5.

In addition, for rice areas that flower before May 5, it is necessary to spray to prevent neck blast disease; spray the first time when the rice is about to flower; spray the second time when the rice field is completely flowered.
