Basically completed items

The People's Committee of Hanoi has allocated nearly 58.7 billion VND for the renovation and upgrading of Nhan Ly pumping station in Nam Phuong Tien commune (Chuong My district). The project has been implemented since March 2023 and has completed about 90% of the construction items.

Records at the scene show that the investor, the Hanoi Technical Infrastructure and Agricultural Construction Project Management Board, has dredged 2,125m of drainage canals, built 15 drainage culverts; basically completed the hydraulic works at the focal area... Currently, the management house is being built and the station house is being completed.

Meanwhile, the My Ha pumping station in Huu Van commune (Chuong My district) has a total investment of nearly 37.6 billion VND. After nearly 1.5 years of construction, the project has completed about 85% of the design items.

The investor representative said that 1,500/1,761.5m of the canal has been dredged; 28/19 works on the canal have been completed. Currently, construction of the hydraulic works of the headquarter area, station house; discharge tank and suction tank are continuing...

In addition to the two pumping stations mentioned above, two projects to renovate and upgrade the Dam Buom pumping station (Tran Phu commune) and My Thuong (Huu Van commune), both in Chuong My district, with a total investment of about 57.7 billion VND and 29 billion VND respectively, have also completed many construction items, with the volume reaching about 95% of the design.

Continue to renovate the old pumping station

According to Head of Irrigation Project Management Department (Hanoi Technical Infrastructure and Agricultural Construction Investment Project Management Board) Tran Anh Tu, in mid-July 2024, the stations were tested with pump units loaded and were all assessed to be operating stably.

“During the severe floods in late July and early August 2024, all pumping stations were operated at their designed capacity. Although they have not been completed and officially accepted, they have been operating relatively effectively, contributing significantly to flood prevention and control in Chuong My district in recent times…” - Mr. Tran Anh Tu added.

Speaking with Kinh te & Do thi, Chairman of Day River Irrigation Development Investment Company Limited Tran Dinh Cuong assessed that the 4 pumping stations invested by the Hanoi People's Committee with a total investment of nearly 200 billion VND, after completion, will actively contribute to drainage and flood prevention in the area along the Bui River.

However, according to Mr. Cuong, during the recent floods in Chuong My district, there were many times when pumping stations that were invested in decades ago, located along the Bui River, were… flooded. This put great pressure on the irrigation sector during the period of continuous floods.

“The water level of the Bui River rose above alert level III, and the stations were flooded; staff and workers had to reinforce the roofs and build embankments to prevent water from overflowing. The pumping stations were also moved to higher locations to avoid damage,” said Mr. Tran Dinh Cuong. At the same time, he recommended that the Hanoi People's Committee continue to pay attention and plan to invest in upgrading old pumping stations along the Bui River to improve drainage capacity during the flood season in the following years.

According to the bulletin of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting , from now until August 22, 2024, the mountainous and midland areas of the North will continue to have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain. The total rainfall during this period is generally from 50 - 100mm, in some places over 200mm. There is a risk of flash floods, landslides on steep slopes and flooding in low-lying areas.
