VnExpressVnExpress07/06/2023

According to the Minister of Science and Technology, in early July, the Ministry will issue a decision to establish a national center for supporting innovative startups in Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City.

The information was announced by Minister Huynh Thanh Dat when answering questions from delegate Tran Chi Cuong (Deputy Head of Da Nang Delegation) on the morning of June 7.

Mr. Dat said that the project to build a national center to support innovative startups in the three cities mentioned above has been completed. After being established, the centers will exploit local resources, aiming at a sandbox policy testing model in new areas without regulations; exploit and connect a team of national and international experts.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said the Government's general policy is to prioritize the establishment of the National Center for Startup and Innovation. Since the previous term, there has been a decree on the functions and tasks of the center, and a very impressive center in the Hoa Lac High-Tech Park (Hanoi) has been built.

According to Mr. Hue, Vietnam has encouraged foreign corporations and enterprises to invest in innovation centers in Vietnam and initially achieved good results. For example, after a long period of research, Samsung Group has developed a very large center in the West Lake area worth 220 million USD, with enough capacity for 3,000 domestic and foreign scientists to research information technology.

Based on that reality, the authorities have the basis to continue implementing innovation and startup centers in other regions such as Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. "All beginnings are difficult, establishing these centers is difficult in terms of legal framework, organizing forces, and building facilities," said Mr. Hue.

The National Center for Supporting Innovative Startups is a public science and technology organization under the Department of Market Development and Science and Technology Enterprises. The Center is responsible for supporting innovative startups and promoting the development of the startup ecosystem.
