On September 22, Tri An Hydropower Company announced that it would release flood water through the spillway downstream, because the average water flow from upstream to the lake is 2,000 m³/s, reaching an elevation of 60.5m (dam safety elevation is 62m).
Accordingly, at 6:00 a.m. on September 22, the upstream water level of the lake reached 60.4m (dam safety elevation is 62m), the downstream water level after the factory was 4.3m and the amount of water passing through the turbine was 815 m³/s, while the amount of water flowing into the lake was up to nearly 2,000 m³/s.
At Ta Lai station (upstream of Dong Nai river), the water level is rising very quickly, currently at between alert level 2 (112.5m) and alert level 3 (113m), while at Bien Hoa station (downstream of Dong Nai river), the peak tide is at a high level, near alert level 2 (2m).
Tri An Hydropower Plant announced to reduce floodwaters downstream at 10:00 a.m. on September 23 with two scenarios as follows: If the water level at Bien Hoa station is below 1.8m (alarm level 1), Tri An Hydropower Plant will discharge water through the spillway with a flow rate of 150 - 300 m³/s, the total water discharge to the downstream is from 1,000 - 1,150 m³/s. If the water level at Bien Hoa station exceeds alarm level 1, Tri An Hydropower Plant will discharge water through the spillway with a flow rate of 0 - 150 m³/s, the total discharge to the downstream is from 850 - 1,000 m³/s.
Low-lying areas along the La Nga River in Tan Phu and Dinh Quan districts (Dong Nai province); Tanh Linh and Duc Linh districts (Binh Thuan province) are at risk of flooding. In addition, many low-lying areas downstream of the Dong Nai River such as Long Thanh, Nhon Trach, Vinh Cuu districts (Dong Nai) and Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City are also at risk of flooding.
Tri An Hydropower Plant is the largest in the South, contributing important electricity output to the national grid as well as regulating water for production and daily life for millions of families and participating in flood regulation for downstream areas and pushing back salinity.
