Thanks to the good implementation of State management of fisheries exploitation, fishermen actively stick to the sea, so the fisheries exploitation output in the first 9 months of 2023 of Ha Tinh is estimated at 32,327 tons, an increase of nearly 3% over the same period last year.

Fisherman Nguyen Huy Dung in Xuan Hoi commune (Nghi Xuan) said: "Our fishing boat has a capacity of more than 200 CV, employs 9 workers, specializes in offshore fishing with purse seine. In the first months of this year, the weather was relatively favorable, the fishing grounds were stable, so we often went offshore. On average, each fishing trip lasted 2-3 days, bringing in about 1-1.3 tons of products, earning 20-23 million VND. After deducting production costs, each fisherman earned about 1.5 million VND/trip."

Mr. Le Anh Duc - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghi Xuan district informed: "Since the beginning of the year, despite many difficulties, fishermen in 9 coastal communes of Nghi Xuan district have actively stuck to the sea and taken care of production. In 9 months, the fleet of 820 boats (20 boats with lengths ranging from 12 to over 24 m) of fishermen in the area has exploited 5,152 tons of various types of seafood, equivalent to the same period last year and equal to 86% of the annual plan. In the last months of the year, we will continue to strengthen direction, urge and encourage people to promote exploitation activities to achieve and exceed the set plan."

Along with Nghi Xuan, fishermen in coastal localities such as Loc Ha, Thach Ha, Cam Xuyen, Ky Anh district, Ky Anh town are also trying to overcome difficulties due to siltation of the inlet and outlet channels, high fuel prices, the majority of small-capacity boats... to maintain the production rhythm. Exploitation activities are closely linked to the protection of aquatic resources, combating illegal exploitation, and limiting violations during fishing. Thanks to that, the exploitation output of local fleets is maintained and basically, ensuring safety during production.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Duyen - an officer of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Loc Ha district informed: "In the area, there is currently a fleet of 305 fishing vessels with a total capacity of more than 21,440 CV, mainly owned by fishermen from Thach Kim, Loc Ha town and Thinh Loc. In the past 9 months, fishermen in the area have caught 2,864 tons of fish, shrimp, crab, squid, crab and other mollusks. During the production process, departments, branches and functional forces regularly direct and deploy solutions to combat IUU fishing".

Ha Tinh currently has 2,784 registered fishing vessels, of which 96 vessels are over 15m long operating in offshore areas, 439 vessels are 12-15m long operating in offshore areas and 2,249 vessels are 6-12m long operating in coastal areas. In the past 9 months, the province has issued 52 additional fishing vessel registration certificates and 139 fishing licenses.

Mr. Ho Ngoc Dien - an officer of the Ha Tinh Fisheries Sub-Department said: "In addition to close direction, production service activities are focused on, fishermen love to work, the weather in the past 9 months has been relatively favorable for exploitation activities, the fishing grounds have appeared many aquatic species such as: squid, orange fish, pomfret, some small pelagic fish, crabs, snails, snails, razor clams... Thanks to that, the total exploitation output of the whole province is estimated at 32,327 tons (an increase of nearly 3% over the same period in 2022), of which, the output of marine exploitation is estimated at 28,888 tons, inland exploitation is 3,439 tons".

“In the last months of the year, the fisheries sector and localities will focus on urging fishermen to overcome difficulties, invest in means and fishing gear to increase fishing output higher than last year. In particular, we will focus on closely monitoring fishing grounds to have effective exploitation plans; strengthen propaganda on protecting aquatic resources and policies and legal regulations on exploiting and protecting aquatic resources; advise on implementing Decision 48/2010/QD-TTg on a number of policies to encourage and support exploitation and services for exploiting seafood in far-off seas; ensure safe exploitation during the rainy and stormy season...” - Mr. Ho Ngoc Dien added.
