Emir of Kuwait, Qatar accepts invitation to visit Pakistan

State-run Pakistan Radio reported on May 26 that Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani have agreed to visit Pakistan at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The above information was confirmed during two meetings between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad with Kuwaiti Ambassador to Pakistan Nassar Abdulrahman Jasser Almutairi and Qatari Ambassador to Pakistan Ali Mubarak Ali Essa Al-Khater.

“During the meeting with the Prime Minister, the Kuwaiti Ambassador handed over a letter from the Amir of Kuwait expressing his intention to visit Pakistan at a mutually agreed date,” state-run Pakistan Radio reported.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif mentioned his recent contact with the Emir of Kuwait on the sidelines of the special meeting of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia last month.

The Pakistani leader also expressed satisfaction that the upcoming meeting of the Pakistan-Kuwait Joint Commission will take place in Kuwait from May 28-30.

Meanwhile, at a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Qatari Ambassador conveyed a letter from the country's Emir accepting an invitation to make an official visit to the South Asian country on "dates mutually agreed upon."

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed Pakistan's appreciation for its historic ties with Qatar and reiterated its firm commitment to further strengthening mutual cooperation between the "two brotherly nations".

In another development, according to Dawn newspaper, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit China in the first week of next month to officially launch the second phase of the $60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). A source in the Prime Minister's Office said that Shehbaz Sharif is expected to leave for China on June 4.
