On the evening of September 10 (local time), Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and the Vietnamese delegation arrived in the capital Maputo, beginning an official visit to the Republic of Mozambique from September 10-13.
Accompanying Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan were Deputy Head of the Office of the President Pham Thanh Ha, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang, Deputy Head of the Central External Relations Commission Truong Quang Hoai Nam, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Pham Duc Long, and Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen.
Welcoming Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and her delegation at Maputo International Airport were Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Pham Hoang Kim, Mozambique's Minister of Maritime Affairs, Inland Waters and Fisheries Lidia Cardoso, Mozambique's Ambassador to Vietnam Leonardo Rosario Manuel Pene and representatives of organizations and businesses from the two countries.
During the visit, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan is expected to hold talks with Mozambican Prime Minister Adriano Afonso Maleiane; pay courtesy calls to President Filipe Nyusi and National Assembly President Esperanca Bias; meet with the President of the Maputo City Council, Secretary General of the Frelimo Party Roque Silva, President of the Confederation of Economic Associations (CTA) and a number of Mozambican businesses. Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan will also meet and talk with officials and staff of the Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Mozambique, and visit and work with the Movitel Telecommunications Joint Venture.
This visit by Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan continues to affirm that the good traditional friendship between Vietnam and Mozambique has always been preserved and developed by the leaders and people of the two countries.
With the important role and increasing position of Mozambique in Southern Africa and Vietnam in Southeast Asia, the potential for cooperation between the two countries in the coming time is huge, especially in the fields of economy and trade. Mozambique has strengths in natural resources, fisheries, competitive labor costs, etc., while Vietnam has strengths in agriculture, handicrafts, fisheries, and a hard-working workforce.
Since establishing relations on June 25, 1975, Vietnam and Mozambique have always given each other valuable support and assistance as well as warm feelings from the previous period of national liberation struggle. Economic, trade and investment cooperation is a highlight in the relationship between the two countries.
Trade turnover in 2022 reached over 177 million USD, an increase of 16% compared to 150 million USD in 2021; Vietnam exported rice, textile products, machinery and equipment... and imported cashew nuts, wood, coal...
