The man was found to have acute kidney failure and was cured despite having no previous symptoms.
Taking his wife for a routine health check-up at Tam Anh General Hospital in early June, Mr. Dang Dinh Dong (44 years old, Hai Phong) also did basic screening tests such as blood and urine tests and abdominal ultrasound. He was surprised when the test results showed acute kidney failure due to abnormally high levels of creatinine and uric acid in the blood.
Mr. Hung has a history of high blood fat and gout. A week before, the patient had acute gout pain, so he went to the pharmacy to buy and take some medicines without a doctor's prescription. After taking the medicine, the patient's joint pain was reduced, there were no symptoms of edema, and he urinated normally.
Dr. Mai Thi Hien, Deputy Head of the Department of Urology - Andrology and Nephrology, said that patients with acute kidney failure may have taken medication on their own, or may have increased uric acid in the blood due to a diet high in protein, alcoholic beverages, etc. The doctor prescribed stopping the medications being taken to eliminate the cause of the medication.
The patient was hospitalized and given alkaline saline to alkalize the urine, adjust water and electrolyte balance, and use drugs to reduce uric acid in the blood. After 3 days of treatment and active monitoring, the patient's kidney function returned to normal, the acute kidney failure was gone, and he was discharged from the hospital.

The doctor said kidney disease often has no symptoms and progresses silently. Most patients are discovered by chance through blood and urine tests and ultrasounds, or during routine health check-ups at medical facilities.
Acute renal failure can be caused by many reasons. In Vietnam, there are some common causes of acute renal failure such as using drugs without a doctor's prescription, taking painkillers for a long time, using weight loss drugs of unknown origin, taking herbal medicine, soaking roots in alcohol of unknown origin, not knowing the impact on health. In addition, drinking grass carp bile, snake bile... is also a common cause of severe acute renal failure.
Acute renal failure, if not detected early and treated promptly, can lead to many dangerous complications such as inability to urinate, pulmonary edema, heart failure, uncontrolled hypertension, acid-base disorders, hyperkalemia, and even cardiac arrest leading to death.
For people with acute kidney failure that is not detected and treated, usually after 3 months, the acute damage can turn into irreversible chronic damage, greatly affecting the patient's health and quality of life. At stage 5 chronic kidney failure, the patient may need dialysis.
Dr. Hien advises that acute kidney failure is sometimes difficult to predict or prevent, but the risk can be reduced by taking proper care of the kidneys. People should take medication when they are sick and as prescribed by their doctor. Pain relievers such as Aspirin, Acetaminophen (Tylenol), Ibuprofen (Advil) and Naproxen sodium (Aleve) increase the risk of kidney damage, especially for people with high blood pressure, diabetes..., when taking them, they must be prescribed by a doctor.
Everyone should establish a balanced diet, increase green vegetables and fruits, avoid foods that are harmful to the kidneys such as beer, alcohol, stimulants, foods high in sugar, salt, and fat. Should increase physical activity appropriate to the physical condition to help improve health and increase the body's resistance.
