Live: New President Vo Van Thuong takes oath of office (source VOV)
On the morning of March 2, the National Assembly Standing Committee convened the 4th extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly to complete the personnel of the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The Standing Committee of the National Assembly submits nominations for the National Assembly to elect the President.
Accordingly, Mr. Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member, Permanent member of the 13th Party Central Committee Secretariat, was introduced to the National Assembly to elect to hold the position of President for the 2021-2026 term.
After being introduced, the National Assembly deputies discussed in groups about personnel to elect the President. After that, the National Assembly Standing Committee reported the results of the discussion in groups and explained and accepted the opinions of the National Assembly deputies.
The delegates then held a secret ballot to elect the President. With the majority of delegates in favor, the National Assembly passed a resolution to elect Mr. Vo Van Thuong as President for the 2021-2026 term.
Then, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue introduced the Oath-taking Ceremony of the President, the honor guard took their positions. The Party and State leaders and National Assembly deputies stood up to take the Oath-taking Ceremony.
New President Vo Van Thuong took the oath before the people and voters nationwide: "Under the sacred red flag with yellow star of the Fatherland, before the National Assembly and the people and voters nationwide, I - President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam swear: To be absolutely loyal to the Fatherland, to the People, to the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, to strive to fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, State and People".
Mr. Vo Van Thuong was born on December 13, 1970; hometown is An Phuoc commune, Mang Thit district, Vinh Long province; advanced political theory degree, master's degree in Philosophy.
He was a member of the Politburo for two terms (XII, XIII), Secretary of the Party Central Committee for two terms (XII, XIII), Standing member of the Party Secretariat for the XIII term, member of the Party Central Committee for four terms (X - alternate, XI, XII, XIII), and a National Assembly delegate for three terms (XII, XIV, XV).
Mr. Vo Van Thuong grew up as a Youth Union official and has held many important positions from local to central levels: Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, First Secretary of the Central Youth Union, Chairman of the Vietnam Youth Union, Chairman of the National Committee on Vietnamese Youth...
In August 2011, he was assigned by the Politburo to hold the position of Secretary of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee.
In April 2014, he became the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2010-2015 term, and was then assigned by the Politburo to run the work of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.
In January 2016, he was elected by the 12th Party Congress to the Party Central Committee and was elected by the Central Committee to the Politburo.
In February 2016, he was assigned by the Politburo to join the Central Party Secretariat, holding the position of Head of the Central Propaganda Department.
At the 13th National Party Congress, Mr. Vo Van Thuong was re-elected as a member of the Central Executive Committee and was elected by the Central Committee to the Politburo.
Mr. Vo Van Thuong was assigned by the Politburo to hold the position of Standing Secretary of the Secretariat from February 2021 to present.
