Having a passion for paintbrushes, crayons, and handmade items since childhood, Ngoc Diep, 20 years old, gradually proved her ability and became the Champion of the UK Scholarship at BUV in 2022.
Nguyen Ngoc Diep is currently a second-year student majoring in Contemporary Creative Studies at British University Vietnam (BUV). Here, the female student has the opportunity to approach many aspects of multidisciplinary creativity such as design, painting, knowledge of engineering, technology, communication and management. Those experiences have made her more determined in her determination to "return to her hometown in Vinh, open a field of art design to help students who share the same passion for creativity".
Ngoc Diep's childhood was filled with days spent with paintbrushes, crayons, fabrics and handmade items. From experimenting with colors, crayons, watercolors, acrylics, in secondary school, Diep seriously learned to draw on the computer and created her first design publications. Not stopping there, her passion for art also expanded to photography, video editing and animation. Throughout that journey, Ngoc Diep received inspiration from her sister and guidance from her father. "My father not only respected my interests but also encouraged me that art is not just a hobby, but can become a career to pursue seriously," Ngoc Diep said.

An important milestone came to Diep in a debate and eloquence competition co-organized by BUV and a local English center, in which she was a contestant (grade 11). After many rounds, the female student won convincingly, "caught the eye" of BUV and she herself secretly chose this school as her target.
Determined to achieve her goal, throughout her high school years, in addition to ensuring her school subjects, she started building her portfolio. Possessing diverse talents in many creative and artistic fields, Ngoc Diep included in her portfolio works that recreate her unique style as well as demonstrate her personal development over the years.
"Later, when I had the opportunity to interact with students who also wanted to become students of Contemporary Creative Studies, I realized more clearly the importance of investing in preparing a portfolio early," Ngoc Diep said, adding that it is the most coherent and impressive language for candidates to express their personality, while affirming the value they can bring to the school.
In addition to the content, the young girl reminded the candidates to pay attention to the design, adding their personal stamp to bring a neat application to the selection board. "I believe that good wood is good paint. Attention will make the difference. This is not only an opportunity for you to prove your talent or show off your finished product, but also a private stage for you to effectively tell your story," Ngoc Diep emphasized.

Ngoc Diep chose to apply for the UK Ambassador Scholarship because at that time, this was the highest scholarship at BUV - 100% tuition. With her innocence, Ngoc Diep at that time just wanted to try, but when she became the Scholarship Champion, the creative female student realized: "The 100% scholarship not only represents the opportunity to study for free but also encourages and recognizes the potential and serious efforts that have been put in. However, I will not be complacent, but always remind myself to be more and more responsible and determined to contribute to the future".
An interesting thing that Ngoc Diep revealed in her application was that she wrote the entire essay a day before the deadline. In the first version, Diep boasted about her flashy achievements, but when she reread it, she found that she could not feel anything from the essay.
On the night she had a fever due to Covid-19, she made a risky decision to write a new essay, following her natural flow of emotions. "The first story that came to mind was memories of my family, my passion for art as a child, my journey to adulthood, and especially the portrait of my sister - the biggest inspiration that helped me stay steadfast on my path to pursuing art. I believe this is the story that best represents who I am," Ngoc Diep recalled.
