Over the past few days, social media in Quang Tri has been sharing some very touching images of the journey to school of female teachers in the highlands. Due to heavy rains, the streams in Quang Tri’s mountainous areas were raging, and the female teachers were carried across by local people. Despite the rain and wind, despite the lurking danger, the female teachers still smiled.

According to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporters, these images were recorded on the journey to the school in Cat and Tria villages by teachers of Huong Son Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities (Huong Hoa District).

According to teacher Tran Thi Kieu Oanh, a teacher at Huong Son Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, the person with the bright smile in the photo, was one of the four people carried across the stream on Monday morning this week (November 13).

Teachers cross raging streams with help from local people

According to Ms. Oanh, that morning, she and 3 colleagues returned to school to teach. On the way, there were many points where the teachers were separated, so they had to cross the stream. It was raining heavily, the water level was high, but there was no other way, so the locals helped the teachers cross the stream.

Crossing the stream on the back of a local, teacher Tran Thi Kieu Oanh smiled brightly amid the flood waters.

Ms. Oanh teaches dozens of kilometers away from school, so every Monday morning she wakes up early to prepare her things and head to school to start a new work week. Then, she and her colleagues stay at school until the weekend before returning home.

"During the rainy season, the road to school for me and my colleagues becomes bumpy and difficult. This is not the first time we have encountered such a situation. When the culverts are deeply flooded and the water flows rapidly, teachers sometimes have to go to people's houses to ask for shelter, waiting for the water to recede before continuing on their journey," Ms. Oanh shared.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Sam, Principal of Huong Son Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, also confirmed that the images circulating were of teachers from the school teaching at Cat and Tria schools.

These are schools far from the center, with 7 teachers and a total of nearly 90 students. Of which, Cat school has 65 students, Tria school has 23 students.

According to Mr. Sam, the school regularly informs and educates teachers at satellite schools to update weather developments and monitor river and stream water levels to be proactive when traveling, to ensure their own safety.

The principal also understands the difficulties that teachers are going through. "Because of their passion and responsibility for their students, teachers always try their best to teach students in the highlands here," said Mr. Sam.
