Enthusiastic and responsible, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngan - Head of the Farmers' Association of Huong Long village, Tan Lam Huong commune, Thach Ha (Ha Tinh) has worked with members and farmers to overcome difficulties and become an excellent association for many consecutive years.

15 years ago, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngan (born in 1964) was elected by the members to hold the position of Head of the Farmers' Association of Huong Long village, Thach Huong commune (old). Leading a branch in a religious area with many characteristics requires the leader to not only be responsible and enthusiastic but also to be flexible in each situation to arouse the strength of solidarity among the members.

The head of the farmers' association coordinated smoothly with organizations in the village's political system, mobilizing farmers to implement policies and actively compete in labor production.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngan has been the Head of the Huong Long Village Farmers' Association for 15 years.

Ms. Ngan shared: “100% of the members of the Huong Long Farmers’ Association are Catholics and so am I. I always encourage members to live a good life, respect God and love the country. With the desire to gather members to do business, the leader “takes the first step” by establishing and developing a model of raising livestock and poultry.

Seeing my family’s effectiveness, many members started production to improve their livelihoods. And in any local movement, I set an example for members to follow. That’s why the Huong Long Village Farmers’ Association always leads the farmers’ movement in the old Thach Huong Commune.”

In 2014, Thach Huong commune (old) implemented the policy of merging from 13 to 7 villages. At that time, Huong Long and Huong Lien villages were merged into Huong Long village; Ms. Ngan continued to be "chosen" by the members. After the merger, the issue that was "put on the scale" the most was to consolidate, perfect the organization and improve the quality of branch activities.

Ms. Ngan mobilized members and farmers to build many effective economic models.

“The Farmers’ Association of Huong Lien village (old) operated without a systematic plan, had few members, causing difficulties for the association after the merger. During the day, I followed the association’s work, and at night, the Vice President and I had to knock on doors to grasp the situation and encourage people to join the association. After many months of doing so, the number of members gradually increased and the quality of activities was clearly improved,” Ms. Ngan recalled.

In the bustling atmosphere of building a new countryside, in 2019, the Party Committee and the Front Committee of Huong Long village registered to build a model residential area. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hop - Secretary of the village Party Cell informed: "To achieve a model residential area, the village launched a "revolution" in building roads. Thanks to the drastic participation of the entire political system and mass organizations with the spirit of "slow and steady wins the race, no matter how difficult it is, we will overcome it and never give up", so in the end, 100% of the parishioners unanimously implemented the major policy. Accordingly, the roads were "hardened", people participated in donating more than 2,000 ^m2 of land, over 1,000 m of fences were removed to widen the road; more than 2 km of green fences were built, 100% of the ditch system in the village was covered...

Under the leadership of the Farmers' Association Branch Chief, the movements of renovating mixed gardens, cleaning the environment, donating land to open roads..., members and farmers in the village enthusiastically participated with the largest number of people and working days.

Members of the Farmers' Association of Huong Long village enthusiastically participate in new rural construction movements.

In 2020, Thach Huong commune merged with Thach Tan and Thach Lam communes to form Tam Lam Huong commune. The large area and the new rural construction pose many challenges, requiring the consensus of the entire political system and the continuous strength of the association organizations.

The Huong Long Village Farmers' Association continues to affirm itself as the core force in the locality. "People's lives are constantly improving. Huong Long Village has 4 large-scale commercial cow and pig farming models, with revenue from 100 - 500 million VND/year; more than 20 economic production and cultivation models with revenue of over 60 million VND/year. This result is due to the drastic participation of the Farmers' Association and the leadership role of the individual Branch Head" - Secretary of the Huong Long Village Party Cell affirmed.

Mr. Nguyen Van Sy - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Tan Lam Huong commune proudly said: "The role of the Head of the Farmers' Association of Huong Long village is clearly demonstrated through the achievements in mobilizing farmers to implement policies and guidelines; considering solutions to improve quality and develop members; leading the movement of the Farmers' Association of Huong Long village to lead the whole commune for many consecutive years. Moreover, comrade Ngan also pioneered in raising funds to continuously improve the material and spiritual life of members. This is a creative way of doing things, very few Farmers' Associations can do it today."

Secretary of the Party Cell of Huong Long village and Head of the Farmers' Association discussed plans to continue building a green - clean - beautiful environmental landscape.

It is known that the Huong Long Farmers' Association undertakes to protect fields, dredge canals, organize rice production on abandoned areas... to cover operating costs. In the summer-autumn crop of 2023 alone, the Association earned more than 7.2 million VND from selling rice. Each year, the Association's fund is supplemented with more than 20 million VND to carry out meaningful tasks such as: organizing tours for members, giving Tet gifts to poor farmers, visiting sick members...

Compared to many other areas, the leaders of the Farmers' Association in the Catholic region have to face more challenges, and the female Head of the Farmers' Association in Huong Long village has made efforts and been creative so that the collective has achieved the title of excellence for many consecutive years.
