In recent weeks, the prices of vegetables and fruits in the province have fallen sharply, affecting the interests of farmers.
One of the reasons for the fall in agricultural prices is that this year's humidity and temperature are suitable for vegetables, tubers, and fruits planted in the winter-spring crop, so the plants grow well without requiring much investment in fertilization. It is worth noting that after the Lunar New Year holiday, farmers in the province focused on harvesting vegetables, tubers, and fruits to free up the fields, prepare the land for production, and sow rice in time for the crop season.
Currently, the price of green vegetables in the province has decreased sharply, only 40 - 50% compared to 1 to 2 months ago. Going to large and small markets in areas such as Vinh Yen city, Binh Xuyen district, Yen Lac, Vinh Tuong... at this time, you can see that the vegetable, root and fruit trading points in the market are very rich and diverse.
According to many vegetable and fruit producers, due to high humidity, frequent drizzle, and severe cold, vegetables in general during this period are almost free of pests and diseases and farmers do not have to use pesticides, so the quality of vegetables, tubers, and fruits at the present time is very good, with beautiful designs, and consumers who buy these products benefit from both single and double benefits because vegetable products in general are now safe and clean.
However, according to farmers, when the fields are cleared of vegetables and crops and the rice planting is completed, the price of green vegetables will increase again, because the vegetable area has decreased and there is not much supply. At this time, green vegetables are supplied to large and small markets, supermarkets... mainly in some specialized areas, concentrated production and in the gardens in the family premises of households specializing in vegetable production for sale.
Farmers in Gia Khanh town, Binh Xuyen district harvest green vegetables.
According to a survey, currently, cabbage that small traders or farmers sell directly at markets in the province costs from 5,000 to 8,000 VND/plant; kohlrabi costs from 2,000 to 3,000 VND/root; carrots cost from 5,000 to 7,000 VND/kg; chayote fruit commonly costs 4,000 to 5,000 VND/kg; celery costs 3,000 VND/bunch; watercress (wild vegetables growing in the fields) costs 3,000 to 5,000 VND/bunch; onions cost 6,000 to 8,000 VND/kg... Prices of lettuce, herbs, green onions... are also very attractive, only 5% compared to before Tet.
With low vegetable prices, some households have postponed planting, leaving vegetables in the fields and gardens to wait for higher prices and sell them for more profit.
In recent years, the area and output of green vegetables in the province have been quite stable because farmers always consider green vegetables as easy to grow, quick to recover capital, and easy to consume thanks to Vinh Phuc being a locality near Hanoi and neighboring provinces with high population density, developed industry and services...
Currently, the annual area of vegetable cultivation in Vinh Phuc is about 10,000 hectares, with an output of over 200,000 tons. Green vegetables are grown in all districts and cities in the province, but are concentrated in the districts of Yen Lac, Tam Duong, Vinh Tuong, Tam Dao, Binh Xuyen...
To meet the general demand for green vegetables for consumers in and outside the province, Vinh Phuc is directing functional agencies to promptly implement mechanisms and policies to support agricultural development, encourage businesses to invest in agriculture and rural areas, etc. The provincial Department of Agriculture continues to review planning, consolidate and accumulate land, and convert crop and livestock structures in accordance with the advantages of each region, each locality and the needs of the consumer market.
Up to now, the whole province has 12 models of linking production and consumption of vegetables, tubers and fruits, including An Hoa Agricultural Services and Agricultural Products Trading Cooperative, Vinh Phuc Safe Vegetable Cooperative, Van Hoi Xanh Safe Vegetable Cooperative, Thanh Ha Safe Vegetable Production Cooperative... These models have initially created links between members to produce vegetables and fruits to supply the market, schools, industrial parks, supermarkets and some stores selling safe agricultural products in the province, Hanoi city and the northern provinces...
The total area with product consumption contracts reached over 124 hectares, with an output of about 8,670 tons/year. Organizations and individuals have provided safe vegetables and fruits to the domestic and foreign markets, with traceable origin.
The Provincial Agricultural Extension Center has worked with local authorities and people of 54 communes and towns in 9 districts and cities to plan an area of 1,840 hectares for growing vegetables and fruits according to VietGAP standards and to adjust the area each year and at appropriate stages to bring high economic efficiency; of which, Vinh Phuc has planned to grow 780 hectares of pumpkin, 370 hectares of cucumber, 50 hectares of chili, 80 hectares of potatoes, 50 hectares of tomatoes, and 540 hectares of other vegetables and fruits.
The province has a mechanism to support 50% of the cost of seeds, organic - biological - microbiological fertilizers, biological pesticides to produce safe vegetables and fruits in the direction of VietGAP for pumpkin, chili, cucumber; support 50% of the cost of organic - biological - microbiological fertilizers, biological pesticides to produce safe vegetables and fruits in the direction of VietGAP for tomatoes, vegetables and fruits; support 50% of the cost of seeds to produce safe vegetables and fruits in the direction of VietGAP for potatoes...
Along with that, the mechanisms and policies for developing vegetable, root and fruit resources are very important, which is to encourage farmers to develop strongly, really value production, create clean, safe and reputable agricultural products... for local people; especially the consumption needs of customers in some neighboring provinces and cities to bring high and stable profits, create jobs and regular income for many rural workers...
