Ukrainska Pravda reported that at least two loud explosions were recorded in the southern city of Zaporizhia on the evening of April 21. The cause of the two explosions has not yet been determined. However, according to some sources, this was the result of an air raid conducted by the Russian military.
After the two explosions, sirens sounded throughout southern Ukraine to guard against similar attacks from Russia.
In the Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson and Mykolaiv regions, people have been ordered to be on high alert and seek shelter. According to Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, air defense systems in the region have been put on combat alert.
Zaporizhia is one of four Ukrainian provinces annexed by Russia last October. However, the Russian army has not yet taken control of the entire territory of this province, especially the capital city of Zaporizhia and the area around the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.
The Ukrainian military has recently deployed a force of soldiers and military equipment to the region in preparation for a counterattack to regain territory. On March 27, Vladimir Rogov, a pro-Russian official in Zaporizhia, confirmed that Ukraine had deployed 75,000 troops to the southern province to prepare for upcoming operations.
Also on April 21, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine accused the Russian military of conducting at least two missile strikes, 28 air strikes and 20 multiple rocket launcher attacks on targets on the territory of this country. The agency also warned that the risk of further Russian air strikes in the near future remains very high.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, fierce fighting is still concentrated on the Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Marinka, and Shakhtarsk fronts in the east of the country. The Bakhmut "fire pit" is considered to be the place where the fighting is taking place most intensely.
However, the Ukrainian military claimed that its defense forces had repelled more than 30 Russian attacks. In addition, Ukrainian air force and artillery also carried out several counterattacks against Russian troop concentrations, military equipment and weapons. These counterattacks caused some damage to Moscow, thereby slowing the advance of pro-Russian forces in the area.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the above information.
