DO N'T FALL INTO DIFFICULT QUESTIONS
According to Master Le Minh Huy, teacher at Nguyen Hien High School (District 11, Ho Chi Minh City), first of all, candidates should read the questions carefully for 2-5 minutes, underline the questions that they are able to do and prioritize them first.
For example, with the math exam, candidates should do questions 1 to 35 carefully because these are easy questions. Don't do them too quickly, which can lead to unnecessary mistakes.
For those who aim for 8 points or more, they should solve questions 1 to 35 in 30-45 minutes to be able to do the following questions. Finally, they should spend the last 10 minutes checking the entire test, prioritizing easy questions, reading through it once and checking the test code or registration number again.
Ms. Tran Thi Hong Nhung, a teacher at Asia International School, noted that before starting the English test, candidates need to glance through all parts of the test to determine the location of the question types and the distribution of easy and difficult questions to calculate the appropriate time.
Grade 12 students will officially take the 2024 high school graduation exam from June 26 to 28.
Ms. Nhung gave specific instructions: "During the review process, based on the sample exam, you will have a basic understanding of which content will be easy questions and which content will be difficult questions. You need to make sure you get the easy questions right first before moving on to the difficult questions, especially the vocabulary and idiom questions. If you encounter vocabulary and idioms that you do not know, you should skip that question and mark it to do later. Do not stop for too long or you will not have enough time to do the easy questions later."
"During the process, you should not get bogged down in questions that are too difficult or time-consuming. If you read a question and cannot think of a solution within 5 minutes, then move on to another question. And finally, do not leave any question blank. You need to spend the last 2-3 minutes of the class checking all the answers and completing the remaining blank questions," Ms. Nhung added advice.
Mr. Huy also noted that some students get bogged down in difficult questions, waste a lot of time, and if they cannot solve them, they will experience psychological pressure. "Leave the difficult questions to the end. When solving these questions, you should try every possible way, carefully analyze each hypothesis given by the question, if you cannot solve them completely, try to analyze and eliminate the answer or think about using a calculator to solve this problem," Mr. Huy reminded the students.
Mr. Huy also advised TS to take deep breaths, breathe slowly, be confident, drink enough water, and chew mint candy to stay awake while working.
NOTES WHEN COLORING ANSWERS
Teacher Tran Thi Hong Nhung pointed out that for multiple choice exams, filling in the answers is also very important. Candidates should fill in the answers while doing the test, if they are sure about a question, circle it in the test paper (to easily check the answer at the end of the test) and fill in the answer right away. If they are not sure about a question, mark it in the test paper to do it later and to avoid missing anything. If candidates want to focus on finishing the test before filling in the answers, they should fill in at least 10 minutes before the end of the test to have time to fill in carefully, avoid filling in mistakes in a hurry and have time to check their work again.
According to Ms. Nhung, candidates also need to be careful with common mistakes due to not reading the questions carefully. For example, in English, questions about synonyms and antonyms, many candidates do not read the questions carefully and choose synonyms (closest meaning) for questions about opposite meanings. Similarly, in the 2 reading comprehension passages, candidates also need to be careful with questions about information not in the reading passage or information that is incorrect compared to the reading passage. Specifically, sentences containing "not mentioned/not true/not indicated/except", if they do not read the questions carefully, candidates will tend to choose the answer that appears in the reading passage. For questions about unknown vocabulary and idioms, candidates need to practice guessing the meaning based on the context of the sentence or reading passage and eliminating wrong answers based on the word type, prepositions and conjunctions that go with it...
DO N'T BE TOO DEPENDENT ON YOUR COMPUTER
Regarding math, Mr. Le Minh Huy's reminder to candidates is not to rely too much on calculators. According to Mr. Huy, in the first questions, many candidates think that they can solve the problem by just knowing how to press the calculator. This concept is incorrect because in fact, the exam questions in recent years have tended to have questions that are "anti-calculator", requiring candidates to have a solid grasp of knowledge to be able to do the test. Therefore, candidates need to carefully review the types of math in each chapter before taking the exam.
In addition, teacher Le Minh Huy reminded: "During the process of doing the test, candidates should carefully read the questions and avoid mistakes. In particular, candidates often confuse the number of solutions and solutions, the graph of f(x) and the graph of f'(x), or when solving logarithmic inequalities, they forget the conditions to determine...".
10 things to note before taking the exam
According to Master Huynh Thanh Phu, Principal of Bui Thi Xuan High School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), to ensure sufficient conditions to enter university, candidates must not be subjective or negligent but need to prepare carefully to confidently achieve the best results with the following 10 notes:
1. Check the information and arrange the documents you bring into the exam room: Exam registration form, student card, and ID card. If there are any errors, notify the school. If you find any errors on the exam day, notify the invigilator.
2. Prepare items allowed to be brought into the exam room: calculator without memory card, without word processing function, ballpoint pen, 2B pencil, eraser, ruler, compass, atlas...
3. Review the knowledge system of the exam subjects, focusing on the 3 subjects of the exam block that have received a lot of investment.
4. Find out the location and distance from your home to the test site. On June 26, when you arrive at the test site to complete the test procedures, you should observe whether the test room has air conditioning, fans, the location of the restroom, etc. to know how to adapt.
5. Carefully read the documents on exam room regulations, instructions on how to take essay and multiple choice tests, special cases... so that when problems arise close to the exam date and during the exam days, parents and students will know how to handle them legally.
6. During these days, if you experience any health symptoms, you must see a doctor and buy medicine according to the doctor's prescription. Absolutely do not buy medicine on your own. Remember to tell your doctor not to prescribe medicine with sedative ingredients because it can easily cause drowsiness, which greatly affects your ability to take the exam and do the test.
7. Don't create pressure that causes psychological stress. Know how to create joy for yourself by not staying up late, drinking lots of water, spending time on entertainment such as watching movies, listening to music, playing games, chatting with friends, playing soccer... Make yourself a "healing set menu" after the exam.
8. This moment has many emotions, cherish and save it. It can be a signature, a wish on the lapel, a picture of each other, a short clip of our class, an experience of being late for school, skipping class...
9. Stay calm when you realize you forgot to bring your exam admission ticket, ID card, or student card. Just go into the exam room and let the exam supervisor know. Even if you lose your pencil case, just go into the exam room and your classmates will share it with you or the exam supervisor will help you.
10. We don't need to be roses, hydrangeas, lilies, night-blooming cereus... Even if we are wild flowers, we are still beautiful in our own way.
