(CLO) Universities across China have launched artificial intelligence (AI) courses based on DeepSeek's platform - which has been described as China's "Sputnik moment" and has attracted widespread attention.
DeepSeek, a Hangzhou-based startup, has received praise from Silicon Valley executives and US tech company engineers, who say its DeepSeek-V3 and DeepSeek-R1 models are on par with state-of-the-art models from OpenAI and Meta.

Shenzhen University in southern China's Guangdong province said this week that it has launched an artificial intelligence course based on DeepSeek, helping students learn about key technologies as well as issues of security, privacy, ethics and other challenges.
The course will “explore how to find a balance between technological innovation and ethical standards,” the school said.
Zhejiang University in eastern China said it began offering special courses on DeepSeek in February.
Shanghai Jiao Tong University has adopted DeepSeek to upgrade AI learning tools for its courses, the school said on its official WeChat account.
Renmin University of China also said it has applied DeepSeek in "multiple fields, powering teaching and research, and campus offices."
In January, China released its first national action plan to build a "strong education nation" by 2035, with the goal of establishing a "high-quality education system" that is viable and whose quality is "among the world's leading".
