Many 10s, expected admission score range will increase

The above is the comment of Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc, Chairman of the Council of the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, right after the announcement of the exam scores.

According to Professor Duc, through the exam results, it can be seen that the exam matrix as well as the basic difficulty level have remained stable and all subjects have had very positive changes.

This is reflected in the significant improvement in the average scores below 5 in all subjects, including subjects such as math, history, and physics, which often have relatively large scores below average.

With the score distribution of subjects such as math, physics, especially chemistry and geography, the number of 10 points is higher than previous years, so it is predicted that the score distribution of the combination A00, A01, B00, C00, D01 will increase.

"Through the evaluation of the exam score distribution, we still see that the social science block, for example, literature and geography have a high rate of excellent scores and low rates of below average scores; meanwhile, in natural science subjects such as math and physics, although the rate of excellent scores has improved, the rate of below average scores is still higher than in other subjects.

Therefore, the work of orientation and university entrance exams in the natural science group needs to be noted and focused on more.

Commenting on this year's exam score distribution, Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Quang, Chairman of the Thai Nguyen University Council, said that there was a degree of convergence, reflecting that high school education was valued and there was no large deviation.

"From the score distribution results, I am pleased that from remote areas to developed areas, the convergence of general education is shown in all subject scores, the difference is not much and not significant. With such a distribution graph, it proves that the teaching organization process, the question creation process, and data analysis have met the requirements," said Professor Quang.

According to this expert, for the 2018 general education program that is being implemented and next year students will be evaluated according to the criteria of this program, the teaching and learning process needs to pay special attention to basic knowledge, balance between fields, and pay attention to the combination, interdisciplinary, and integrated nature.

Thus, in the process of evaluating students in next year's exam, the questions will also focus on this content, assessing the overall academic ability of the learner and then helping them to have the mindset and methods to solve practical problems with certainty later in life.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duc Son, Principal of Hanoi National University of Education, through the study of the score distribution, it shows that the score distribution this year is basically quite good. That shows that the exam results are quite stable compared to previous exams and that the results reflect the quality of teaching in general education.

Specifically, the score distribution of some subjects such as history is very good. In addition, the score distribution of English also started to have more positive changes compared to the score distribution of previous years.

One of the goals set for the high school graduation exam is to have a certain differentiation so that universities can base their admissions on the results. In my opinion, this goal has been initially achieved. With many score ranges and differentiation in results between subjects, it is completely possible for universities to base their admissions on that combination.

As for the exam questions this year, I think they have been done fairly well and have gradually been able to access new exam question technologies. However, I still hope that the exams in the following exams will be more uniform, with less difference between the scores of the subjects. This will create a common ground for easy assessment of the quality of teaching and learning.

Previously, right after the exam scores were released, the Ministry of Education and Training also announced the score distribution for each subject.

Accordingly, the score distribution of high school graduation exams in 2024 remains stable and similar to the score distribution in 2023 and previous years. The average and median scores of exams nationwide remain stable and similar to those in 2023, as shown in the following statistical table:

The scores of all subjects are appropriately differentiated to ensure stable enrollment as in the previous year; the traditional combinations in the enrollment process are also relatively stable compared to previous years.
