GĐXH – While operating the harrow, the patient lost control of the steering wheel, causing the harrow blade to cut his leg, causing pain and heavy bleeding.

On October 26, information from the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases said that recently, this unit successfully treated a patient whose leg was cut by a plow blade.

Accordingly, patient NVH (34 years old, in Hanoi) was taken to the emergency room by his family in a state of shock, pain and heavy blood loss due to a plow blade cutting and deeply embedded in his left leg.

According to the story, in the morning, while operating the harrow, the patient lost control of the steering wheel, causing the harrow blade to cut his leg. Immediately after the accident, local people helped remove the harrow blade from the machine and took the patient to the hospital. However, during the journey, the patient lost a lot of blood.

Upon arrival at the hospital, the patient was still stuck with the harrow embedded in his leg. Immediately, the doctors decided to transfer the patient straight to the emergency operating room.

Doctor Hoang Manh Ha - Head of the Department of Orthopedic Trauma and Spinal Neurosurgery - who directly performed the surgery - said that the patient had two cutting blades from the harrow pierced from the upper outer side of the calf to the lower inner side, cutting through the muscle mass and interosseous membrane of the calf.

In emergency situations, doctors do not have enough time to perform comprehensive tests, but only conduct quick blood type and blood count tests to prepare for emergency blood transfusion.

The surgery lasted about an hour. The surgical team used anesthesia to carefully remove the blade so as not to cause further injury to the patient.

The patient suffered a small branch of the posterior tibial artery injury, a rupture and partial crushing of the medial and lateral gastrocnemius muscles, no bone fractures, no damage to major blood vessels or important nerves.

Doctors treated the injury by stopping the bleeding, removing all the crushed muscle and cleaning the wound. The patient was transfused with 2 units of blood to compensate for the amount of blood lost during the emergency.

Currently, the patient has overcome the critical stage and is in the process of recovery. Photo: BVCC.

Thanks to timely emergency care and intervention, the patient has overcome the critical condition and is recovering well. After 5 days of treatment, the patient's condition has stabilized and he has begun to walk again.

From this case, Dr. Ha recommends that in similar accidents, you should never try to remove the machine from the patient's body. This can cause shock due to pain and blood loss or cause the patient to suddenly stop breathing and be life-threatening.

In addition, improper removal of the device can cause further damage to the soft tissue, especially the major blood vessels and nerves. Therefore, it is best to leave the device as is and take both the patient and the device to the hospital for proper treatment.
