On November 24, the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi (Quang Binh) announced that doctors had just performed surgery to close a brain fistula and performed endoscopic surgery to remove a foreign object, a part of a chopstick, that had penetrated the nose and brain of a 35-year-old man. It is worth noting that the foreign object had been deep in the patient's skull for the past 5 months.
According to the patient's family, about 5 months ago, while drinking, Mr. PVT (born in 1988, residing in Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province) got into a fight with someone else and was injured. Mr. T. was taken to the emergency room but no abnormalities were found in the nasal area, and he was only treated with internal medicine.

Mr. T. said he had no idea that a chopstick had pierced his nose into his brain. He only remembered that during a fight at the drinking table, he was stabbed in the face by something and was taken to the emergency room, but after that, he only felt headaches, tension, and pus flowing from his nose and throat many times.
Before being treated at the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi, the patient felt itchy in his nose so he used tweezers to remove the foreign object and was surprised to discover a large foreign object inside.
Immediately afterwards, Mr. T. was taken to the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi by his family for emergency treatment in a state of headache, loss of vision, and a lot of discharge from his nose and throat.
Through a CT scan of the brain, doctors recorded a condition of intracranial pneumothorax. After a consultation, the medical team decided to perform endoscopic surgery through the nose combined with microsurgery to close the brain fistula for the patient without leaving any sequelae.
After a successful surgery, the patient's health is now stable and he is continuing to receive treatment and recovery, awaiting discharge from the hospital.
