Spending tens of millions on filler injections for "breast augmentation and butt augmentation"
MSc. Dr. Nguyen Minh Nghia - in charge of the cosmetic surgery department, Hoe Nhai General Hospital (Hanoi) - said that in just 3 months from the beginning of the year until now, the hospital has recorded 6 cases of complications due to filler injections.
A typical case is that of female patient HT (born in 1994, Nghe An) who came to the hospital for breast augmentation and discovered that she had been injected with filler into her breasts.
According to Ms. T., in 2023, the female patient was introduced by a friend to have natural breast augmentation using autologous fat grafting.
Ms. T. had to spend 50 million VND to do it, but during the process she was blindfolded and had no idea what the doctor was doing. She only felt a slight tightness in her chest.
After that, her breasts quickly deflated, and after 3 months, she returned to her original workplace and had a "touch-up" injection. Recently, Ms. T. went to Hoe Nhai General Hospital for a breast augmentation, where the doctor discovered that the patient had been injected with filler into her breasts, not autologous fat grafting.
Also having breast augmentation, Ms. D.TG (Hanoi) recounted that once she and her friend went to a spa in Hanoi, listening to the spa owner's invitation and the surprisingly low cost, she decided to inject filler into her chest area with the commitment of "immediate beauty, plumpness, quality filler".
After a year of filler injection, Ms. G's breasts became lumpy, hard to the touch, and painful. She went to Dr. Nghia for an examination. After an ultrasound, the doctor discovered an abnormal amount of filler injected into the female patient, which was filler mixed with silicone.
Dr. Nghia shared that some patients even had to go under the knife twice to remove filler after a butt lift.
The patient is Ms. LTM (Hanoi). She said she had filler injections at a famous facility in Hanoi, costing more than 50 million VND for buttock augmentation. When she first arrived, they only offered a few million VND, but after just a few minutes of consultation, the different service packages were already at a huge amount of money.
After that, Ms. M. had sharp pain in her buttocks and lower back due to the silicone injection, which then clumped and moved up to her lower back. During the first surgery, the doctor prescribed a silicone curettage combined with a buttock implant. The amount of silicone cured was nearly 600ml.
Last March, the doctor performed a second surgery to remove the remaining lumpy silicone. The silicone had clumped into small round balls, and the silicone had spread from the patient's buttocks to her back.
No substances are allowed to be injected into the buttocks or breasts.
Doctor Nghia said that recently, doctors at Hoe Nhai General Hospital have encountered quite a few cases of women coming to the clinic after having filler injected into their breasts and buttocks. Among them, there are many cases where women do not know that they have been injected with filler.
At beauty facilities, women are advised to use mechanical systems, or use massage methods, use many other methods, or during the process are advertised as using non-invasive methods.
However, according to Dr. Nghia, during the implementation process, many for-profit spas have used fillers of unknown origin.
Therefore, many women will see their breasts grow larger immediately after the injection, but after only 1-2 months their breasts will deflate again.
In addition, many women experience complications with lumpy breasts, tumors, etc., making the patient feel very uncomfortable in daily activities.
Even when doing beauty treatments at unsafe, unsanitary facilities, it can lead to infections and complications such as redness, pus discharge, etc.
"Currently in Vietnam as well as in the world, there is absolutely no substance licensed for injection into the chest and mammary gland area because it can cause lumps, inflammatory reactions, and long-term cancer. All advertisements of facilities that can inject fillers to enlarge the bust, or use machines to enlarge the mammary glands are incorrect," Dr. Nghia emphasized.
This expert also said that currently there are two main methods used: breast implants and breast fat grafting surgery. These are two popular methods licensed by the Ministry of Health to increase breast volume.
"When using the methods to increase bust size as mentioned above and notice lumps, bumps, or pain in your bust, you should immediately go to a specialized medical facility for timely examination and treatment," Dr. Nghia recommends.
