On August 27, information from Can Tho General Hospital said that it had performed plastic surgery on a man whose nose was completely bitten off by a dog.
According to Mr. NVN (71 years old, in Thoi Lai district, Can Tho city), while opening the door to chase the neighbor's dog into his family's rice drying oven, he was bitten in the face by the dog.
He said this is a native dog, the neighbor normally keeps it tied up to guard the house, but that day he suddenly let it loose so it came to his house.
Immediately after being bitten by a dog, his family took him to the emergency room. There, he received first aid, a rabies shot, and was transferred to an ENT doctor for treatment. The doctor noted that the patient had a complex wound, a deformed nose, and the entire right nostril was missing due to a dog bite.
According to Dr. Nguyen Thanh Van - Head of the ENT Department of Can Tho General Hospital, this is a complicated open wound, losing one side of the nose and all the large alar cartilage. Surgery is needed to reconstruct the structure of the nose, because if left for a long time, it will lead to severe deformation and widespread infection, causing loss of aesthetics of the nose and face.
The surgical team decided to use septal cartilage and ear cartilage to reconstruct the large alar cartilage, reshaping the patient's nose. The doctors had to calculate in detail the length and width of the missing alar to create a suitable flap. At the same time, they rotated the nasolabial flap to recreate the skin on both sides of the alar, and sutured to reshape the nostril contour.
After surgery, the skin flap that regenerates the nose is rosy, ensuring the function and aesthetics of the patient's nose.
