Hanoi Viettel thought they were in trouble when Mohammed Essameldin was injured, but Jeferson Elias replaced him and shone with a goal and an assist to help the team defeat Nam Dinh 2-0 in the quarter-finals of the National Cup on the evening of July 11.

In the 22nd minute, when the score was 0-0, Essameldin was injured and could not continue playing. Coach Thach Bao Khanh had to replace this foreign player with Elias. But this reluctant adjustment became a turning point, when the Brazilian striker left his mark on both goals, helping Viettel defeat Nam Dinh at Hang Day Stadium.
In the 55th minute, Nam Dinh striker Douglas Coutinho headed the ball against the post when he was unmarked near the goal. Viettel got the ball, immediately changed their stance, and quickly counterattacked. Receiving a pass from Duong Van Hao, Elias fired a powerful shot, sending the ball past goalkeeper Tran Nguyen Manh and into the roof of the net.
In the 73rd minute, Elias shone again, this time in the role of assist, with a pass that went past all of Nam Dinh's defenders and goalkeeper, allowing Nham Manh Dung to easily tap the ball into an empty net to seal the score at 2-0. With a safe gap, Coach Bao Khanh immediately took hero Elias off to rest.
Elias was injured at the beginning of the season, but Viettel still kept him, waiting for him to recover. As soon as he returned to play, the Brazilian player immediately made amends to the team. Before defeating Nam Dinh, he also came off the bench, had a goal-scoring shot to help Viettel defeat the National Cup holder - Hanoi FC - with a score of 2-1 in the round of 16.

In the quarter-final match at Hang Day Stadium, Nam Dinh played ineffectively when the "explosive" Hendrio was closely followed by the opponent. Meanwhile, the newly added and expected player To Van Vu had a poor sense of the ball, missing delicious opportunities.
In the 64th minute, Van Vu quickly got down, lifted the ball past goalkeeper Van Phong, but then headed the ball into the net. Five minutes later, the player who came to Nam Dinh on loan from the People's Public Security unexpectedly had a chance to face the opposing goalkeeper, when Jaha made a mistake in clearing the ball back. However, when he had time to handle the ball and was not being marked by anyone, he did not get down to shoot but hesitated, and then his cross was blocked by the opposing defender who rushed back.
Main events of the match Viettel 2-0 Nam Dinh.
Having been eliminated from the National Cup, Nam Dinh still has the V-League to strive for. Coach Vu Hong Viet's team is in the top 8 after the first stage and has a ticket to the second stage of the championship. However, they currently have only 19 points, five points behind the top position of Hanoi Police.
Viettel meanwhile still hope to win the double. In the National Cup they will meet Binh Dinh in the semi-finals. While in the V-League they are in fourth place, just three points behind the leaders.
