Nghe An provides more than 25,000 liters of chemicals to prevent African swine fever

Currently, the work of preventing African swine fever is receiving attention from localities and people, especially when the epidemic is still complicated near the Lunar New Year.

The districts with the most African swine fever outbreaks in Nghe An include Yen Thanh, Dien Chau, Nghi Loc, Do Luong, Anh Son, Thanh Chuong, Hung Nguyen... These are also the localities with the largest livestock herds in the province.

Disease prevention measures are being implemented synchronously in the locality. For pigs showing symptoms, people report to local authorities to send veterinary staff to take samples. After the sample is positive for African swine fever, the area will be isolated, disinfected and the pigs will be destroyed according to regulations.

In addition, the locality will set up quarantine checkpoints, control people and vehicles entering and leaving the epidemic area, ensure that sick and dead pigs will not be traded in the market, and minimize the spread of the epidemic.

Mr. Hoang Van Tho in Thanh Thinh commune, Thanh Chuong district said: As soon as African swine fever appeared in my neighborhood, I sprayed disinfectant and spread many layers of lime powder in front of the house gate, the barn area, minimizing access to the house with infected pigs as well as the pig culling point. Thanks to that, my family's herd of 6 pigs is still safe.

Currently, Nghe An province is deploying the provision of epidemic prevention chemicals to localities. Most recently, in Decision No. 4283/QD-UBND dated December 22, 2023, Nghe An province provided 5,000 liters of Han-Iodine 10% chemicals from the national reserve to 7 localities for epidemic prevention including: Anh Son, Vinh City, Yen Thanh, Nghi Loc, Tan Ky, Do Luong, Thanh Chuong; in which Yen Thanh district was provided the most with nearly 1,500 liters.

According to the provincial Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, in addition to the recent decision to provide 5,000 liters of chemicals, since the beginning of the year, Nghe An province has provided more than 20,000 liters of chemicals from previous batches to distribute to localities for disease prevention.

Regarding lime powder for disinfection, currently, localities are allocating their own funds to purchase to support people. Mr. Hoang Xuan Cuong - Vice Chairman of Anh Son District People's Committee said: Since the reappearance of the epidemic in the area, the district has allocated 542 million VND to buy lime powder to support all communes, including communes that have not had the epidemic yet, to prevent the epidemic. In addition, the district also recommends that communes and livestock farmers continue to proactively purchase more chemicals and lime powder to suppress the epidemic as soon as possible.

"In addition to using lime powder and chemicals to prevent epidemics, the district also requires communes to perform well the work of being on duty at 36 checkpoints in the area. When detecting the transportation and trading of pigs in and out of epidemic areas, it must be prevented and strictly handled according to regulations..." - Mr. Hoang Xuan Cuong emphasized.

Currently, African swine fever is developing quite complicatedly in Nghe An. The whole province currently has more than 100 outbreaks that have not passed 21 days in 17 districts, cities and towns. The total number of pigs culled is nearly 8,000.
