With the scale of STEM 2024 activities expanded based on the success of 2023, the VGU STEM 2024 program increases the number of high schools in Binh Duong and Ho Chi Minh City to 25 schools co-organizing the program.
The aim of this activity is to provide real-life STEM challenges that help local students develop their analytical thinking, problem-solving skills and explore how science can contribute to the global green transition. The challenges not only help students better understand the role of STEM in their lives, but also spark their passion and creativity, helping them envision how to apply this knowledge in practice.
Attracting 1,000 students from Vinh Long province
On September 22, 2024, Vietnam-Germany University in collaboration with the Department of Education and Training of Vinh Long organized the VGU STEM program - "Green Transformation and Sustainable Development", the venue was deployed at Luu Van Liet High School.
The event attracted 1,000 students from high schools across the province with interesting challenges revolving around practical life issues.
To ensure that 1,000 science-loving students get a full experience, lecturers, engineers and staff from the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Economics and Management of VGU have prepared 10 challenge stations revolving around issues of green transformation and sustainable development. When undertaking the challenges, students must apply their knowledge of mathematics, physics, and information technology, while also developing soft skills including teamwork, team leadership, critical thinking and communication to be able to conquer all the challenges.
Comprehensive approach: teachers and students
In 2024, VGU's STEM program will not only be for students but also focus on improving STEM teaching capacity for high school teachers through intensive training courses.
On September 14 and 15, the training program "Improving the capacity to use STEM science and technology equipment for high school teachers" was successfully held and attracted the participation of 40 teachers from high schools in Binh Duong, Vinh Long and Ho Chi Minh City.
By participating in the program, teachers have access to and practice with advanced technologies such as Robotics, 3D printing, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Activities not only focus on theory but also aim at practical application, helping teachers understand how to integrate STEM into the teaching process, thereby creating lively and effective learning activities for students.
A group of teachers from Nguyen Huu Huan High School and Vinh Long province carried out a project on kinematic wave models, to illustrate the oscillation equation of mechanical waves.
A math teacher at Nguyen An Ninh High School presented on the application of 3D printing equipment to illustrate the concepts of surface area, volume, and symmetry elements of spatial geometry.
