On the afternoon of July 26, Binh Chanh District Police (HCMC) completed the investigation of the scene where 5 workers of the HCMC Urban Drainage Company were suffocated by gas in a sewer, causing 1 death and 4 others to be hospitalized.
According to initial information, this morning, a group of workers started dredging the drainage system on Tran Van Giau Street, through Pham Van Hai Commune, Binh Chanh District.
While working, a worker got stuck in the sewer, so another group of workers went down to rescue him. However, the whole group suffocated and fainted inside the sewer.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Team, Binh Chanh District Police mobilized vehicles and officers and soldiers to the scene to deploy a rescue plan.
After a short time, the victims were brought to the ground for first aid but one person died. The rest were taken to Cho Ray Hospital for emergency treatment.
The cause of the incident is currently being investigated.
