Russia breaks through Ukraine's defense line, threatens Chasov Yar

Russia attacks from both north and south, Ukrainian forces under great pressure

On July 19, AVP reported that the Russian army had achieved significant success on the eastern front, breaking through the defense line of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and creating a threat to Chasov Yar from the flank. Accordingly, after the forces of the 200th Brigade (Russia) captured Kalinovka and the landing force broke through the strong defense line of the Ukrainian army on the northern flank, Russia continued its offensive, crossing the Seversky Donets - Donbass Canal.

Currently, the 98th Ivanovo Airborne Division (Russia) is expanding its control in this area, and the 200th Brigade and the Volunteer Corps (Russia) are reinforcing their positions around Kalinovka. From the south, the landing forces and regiments of the Southern Military District are advancing towards the city of Chasov Yar from Ivanovsky, attacking the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces along the canal.

On the northern flank of Chasov Yar, the Russian army is also under heavy attack, causing concern for the Ukrainian army. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that there were 6 attempts to break through the defenses in the direction of Kramatorsk, with the main efforts of the Russian army concentrated in the Chasov Yar area.

Russian drone takes down US-made self-propelled gun

On July 18, RT reported that the Russian Ministry of Defense said that a Lancet suicide drone destroyed a Ukrainian Paladin М109 self-propelled artillery system in the Kherson region.

According to RT, reconnaissance planes detected a US-made self-propelled artillery position used by the Ukrainian army. When discovered, the system was firing at the Russian army. After that, Russia immediately deployed drone airstrikes. "After a precise attack by the Lancet suicide drone, the enemy's self-propelled artillery was destroyed," an official added.

The Russian Ministry of Defense also released a video recording the attack. Images from the video show the self-propelled gun being attacked by a suicide drone and just seconds later the gun exploded, fragments flying in many directions.

A day earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry released a similar video showing a Lancet suicide drone attacking a Ukrainian Gvozdika self-propelled artillery system in the Kiev-controlled area on the right bank of the Dniepr River,

The Russian military has been actively using Lancet suicide drones to attack equipment and military positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Lancet suicide drone was developed by ZALA Aero Group, a subsidiary of Russian defense giant Kalashnikov Concern. The Lancet drone has a number of improvements and can carry a payload of up to 3kg at a maximum range of 50km. According to Reuters, a drone costs about 3 million rubles (about $34,000), while many heavy weapons supplied by the United States can cost millions of dollars.
