In a joint statement, G7 leaders plan to outline measures to protect sensitive technology, including measures to invest abroad, Mr. Sullivan revealed.
Referring to the G7's cooperation plan with China, the White House official shared: "The statement will note that each country has its own relationship and approach, but we are united and aligned around a set of common elements."
On the same day, Advisor Sullivan confirmed that US President Joe Biden will meet with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the conference. He affirmed that President Biden “looks forward” to this meeting, but did not announce a specific time.
In a related development, German newspaper Die Zeit quoted German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz as saying that G7 members oppose the idea of separating China from world trade.
Speaking after the G7 consultation on China within the framework of the Summit in Hiroshima (Japan), Prime Minister Scholz affirmed that there was a very clear consensus that the group does not pursue the goal of eliminating China from world trade.
“No one mentioned the word ‘eliminate’ here,” he pointed out.
According to the head of the German government, although G7 members agree to support China's strong development, it is also necessary to emphasize that this trend must be linked to the world order, in which all countries must comply with international rules.
