Landslides caused many houses in Tuong Duong, Ky Son, Que Phong, Con Cuong districts... to collapse and be damaged, including 2 newly built houses worth billions of VND.
This afternoon (September 24), Mr. Nguyen Van Hoe, Chief of Office of the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district (Nghe An) said that in the district, there are 15 communes and towns that suffered a lot of damage caused by floods.
Specifically, in Xa Luong commune, two newly built solid houses of Mr. Lo Van Mao and Mr. Luong Van Son in Xieng Huong village were completely damaged by rocks and soil, with estimated damage of about 2 billion VND.
In Yen Hoa commune, the semi-permanent 3-room stilt house of Ms. Lo Thi Hong in Yen Tam village was hit by rocks and soil, forcing the family to move their belongings to a safe place. The estimated cost of repairing the damage is about 160 million VND.
Ms. Lo Thi Tra My, Chairwoman of Xa Luong Commune People's Committee, said that Mr. Mao's and Mr. Son's houses had similar designs. Mr. Mao's house had collapsed completely after only 15 days of moving in, while Mr. Son's house had been moved in for about 2 years and had less damage.
“People estimate that the cost of digging, leveling the ground and building two houses is about VND2 billion. The commune government is preparing documents to request support according to state regulations. Initially, we have allocated VND5 million from the commune budget for each household,” Ms. My added.
Mr. Tho Ba Re, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ky Son district, said that the recent floods and rains have forced the urgent evacuation of four houses in Chieu Luu commune. The houses that had to be evacuated were all caused by landslides.
Mr. Luong Van Huan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thong Thu Commune (Que Phong District), said that heavy rains caused landslides, forcing 16 households to evacuate to safety. Among them, the two-story wooden house of Ms. Luong Thi Hoa in Muong Piet Village was completely collapsed.
In addition to the damage caused by collapsed and damaged houses, the floods also inundated 136 hectares of rice fields and damaged more than 1,800 hectares of various crops. Aquaculture ponds were also affected, along with the provincial and national road systems being severely damaged.
