Expanding the model of practical training for young doctors at hospitals associated with medical stations nationwide

The unit will expand the program, allowing all young doctors graduating from medical schools nationwide to participate. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health will also invite leaders of hospitals and medical facilities from other provinces and cities to participate in the job fair.

On the afternoon of August 18, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health held a conference to summarize the pilot program of practical training at hospitals associated with medical stations. Attending the conference was Head of the Organizing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Phuoc Loc.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, the program started to be implemented in early 2022 and so far, after 18 months, 270 doctors have completed the practical training program at the hospital attached to the health station.

Each young doctor participating in the program receives direct guidance and close professional supervision from doctors at the city's leading hospitals such as: People's Hospital 115, Gia Dinh People's Hospital, Children's Hospital 1, Children's Hospital 2... and practices at health stations, participates in primary health care for people, participates in epidemic prevention and public health programs.

However, the program has not yet attracted the participation of young doctors who have just graduated. Many people still do not understand the program correctly and think that practicing at health stations cannot train good personnel.

Along with that, the primary health care system has not yet attracted young doctors because the facilities and medical examination and treatment techniques at the primary health care system are not yet high, and career advancement opportunities at the primary health care system are not clear.

“In the immediate future, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health will include outstanding young doctors from the pilot program in the list of young talent training for the industry. At the same time, it will propose new policy bases to attract new doctors to participate, especially the preferential treatment policy for doctors who choose to work in grassroots health care,” Associate Professor, Dr. Tang Chi Thuong informed.

At the same time, the unit said that in the future, the program will be expanded to allow all young doctors graduating from medical schools nationwide to participate. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health will also invite leaders of hospitals and medical facilities from other provinces and cities to participate in the job fair to recruit young doctors as one of the solutions to increase human resources for the health system of the provinces and cities in the Southern region.
