During a hearing on Tuesday, politicians were shown two artifacts that Mexican journalist and UFO enthusiast Jaime Maussan claimed were alien remains. Maussan insisted the two specimens had no connection to Earth-based life.
The two small “corpses,” placed in two suitcases, have three fingers on each hand and elongated heads. Maussan said the artifacts were recovered in Peru in 2017. He said they date back 1,000 years and were analyzed through carbon dating conducted by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
Previous similar discoveries have been identified as the remains of children.
Mr. Maussan said this was the first time these artifacts had been displayed.
“I believe this is a clear signal that we are dealing with specimens of non-human origin and unlinked to any other species on Earth, and every possibility needs to be explored… by scientific institutions,” said Maussan. “We are not alone.”
Jose de Jesus Zalce Benitez, director of the Mexican Institute of Health Sciences, said X-ray analysis, 3D reconstruction and DNA analysis were performed on the body.
“I can confirm that these bodies have no human connection,” he said.
On Thursday, UNAM republished a statement first published in 2017, saying that operations by the National Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Laboratory (LEMA) had been carried out to date the sample.
“We do not draw any conclusions about the origin of the specimen under any circumstances,” UNAM said.
Lawmakers also heard from former US Navy pilot Ryan Graves, who testified before Congress about his experience with unexplained aerial phenomena (UAP) and the stigma surrounding reporting such experiences.
Congressman Sergio Gutierrez, from President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's Morena party, said he hoped the hearing would be just the first of similar events in Mexico in the future.
“We conclude the hearing with our thoughts, concerns, and pathways to future dialogue on these issues,” said Congressman Sergio Gutierrez.
In recent years, the US government has changed its stance on publicizing information related to UAPs after decades of secrecy. The Pentagon has actively investigated incidents reported by military pilots in recent years, and an independent NASA panel has been established to study UFOs for the first time in the agency’s history.
NASA is expected to discuss the findings from their study on Thursday.
Mr. Maussan was quickly criticized and protested by skeptics about the authenticity of his presentation.
“Why didn’t they wait until a scientific paper was ready before announcing these findings? This would really damage the seriousness of the issue,” wrote one user on X (formerly Twitter).
