After leaving PSG after the 2022/23 season, Lionel Messi has chosen to join Major League Soccer (MLS) club Inter Miami. The 36-year-old is currently preparing for a new life in the United States. He is even willing to sacrifice matches for the Argentina national team to do this.
According to the Mirror, Lionel Messi told coach Lionel Scaloni that he wanted to temporarily leave the Argentina national team for 1 year to allow himself and his family to adapt to the new environment.
Mirror's source further revealed that the captain of the Argentina national team was "stunned" when he learned of Lionel Messi's wishes.

The 7-time Ballon d'Or winner needs the approval of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) to make this move happen. However, the AFA is expected to grant the 36-year-old superstar's wish.
With Lionel Messi wanting to take a year off from the Argentina national team, the superstar may be absent from the 2024 Copa America in the US. Previously, Lionel Messi also left open the possibility of participating in the 2026 World Cup held in the US, Canada and Mexico.
Currently, Lionel Messi's wife Antonela Roccuzzo and their children are still rushing to find a new home in Miami. The Messi family needs to stabilize their lives before El Pulga fights with Inter Miami.
Lionel Messi is expected to debut for his new team on July 24, in a match against Mexican club Cruz Azul in the Leagues Cup.
