Toni Kroos has just confirmed that he will return to the German national team. The midfielder currently playing for Real Madrid is expected to join the "tanks" for two friendly matches against France and the Netherlands in March, and then the EURO 2024 finals in his home country.
Toni Kroos announced his retirement from the German national team in 2021. Regarding the reason for his decision to return, the 34-year-old midfielder said: “I have been contacted by coach Julian Nagelsmann. I think I can contribute to the German national team at the upcoming EURO 2024 finals.
I feel convinced. I think now is the right time to announce that I will return to the German national team. I am satisfied with my decision, after careful consideration. I am in good shape and ready to participate in the tournament held in my country."
Toni Kroos decided to return at a time when the German national team was facing problems with the quality of personnel and the coaching bench. Die Mannschaft was eliminated in the group stage at both recent World Cups. At EURO 2020, the German national team only reached the round of 16.
Toni Kroos has played 106 times for Germany, scoring 17 goals and providing 19 assists. He was a key player in the “tanks” squad that won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
