On August 10, Ukraine launched a suicide drone attack on the Kaluga region, Moscow and the city of Sevestapol in the Crimean Peninsula.
The attack was thwarted by air defense systems and electronic warfare means, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
“Last night, Kiev’s attempts to carry out terrorist attacks using drones were thwarted in the Kaluga region, Moscow region and the city of Sevastopol,” the statement read.
Air defense forces shot down two drones near the city of Sevastopol, while nine others were jammed by electronic warfare systems and crashed into the Black Sea. “The terrorist attacks were thwarted and did not cause any casualties or damage,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The wreckage of the downed Ukrainian drone did not cause any casualties or material damage, Kaluga Region Governor Vladislav Shapsha said.
“Air defense forces shot down a drone in the Maloyaroslavets district at 4:03 a.m. today (August 10). There were no casualties or damage,” the governor wrote on his Telegram channel.
The new attacks come as Kiev forces are launching counterattacks in multiple directions on the front line but without any success.
Russian troops stepped up their attacks, repelling Ukrainian counterattacks.
In the Kherson direction, the Russian military destroyed two military boats and a howitzer, according to a spokesman for the regional emergency services.
“Over the past 24 hours, two boats, 10 Ukrainian soldiers and a D-30 howitzer with ammunition were destroyed in the area of the island by fire from units of the Dnepr battle group,” the spokesman said.
The Russian military also destroyed a Msta-B towed howitzer with ammunition and a deployment point consisting of four vehicles, a 120 mm mortar with crew and ammunition.
A Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer and a position of Kiev forces were attacked and destroyed in the direction of Kakhovka, the spokesman added.
In the direction of Krasny Liman, artillery and aviation of the Tsentr Group of Forces (Russia) targeted the assault groups of 2 Ukrainian army brigades.
“In the Krasny Liman direction, attack aircraft and artillery fire inflicted damage on the assault groups of the 21st and 67th mechanized brigades of the Ukrainian army in the Chervonopopovka area and the Serebryansky forest. The enemy's losses amounted to 50 soldiers, one infantry fighting vehicle and one pickup truck,” the group’s spokesman Alexander Savchuk told TASS.
Russian media also shared videos showing four recent attacks using artillery shells and Lancet suicide drones targeting three artillery pieces and a German-made Leopard-2 tank of Kiev forces.
Overall, the Ukrainian counteroffensive has not achieved any success. The increased attacks on Russian territory appear to be Kiev’s attempt to deflect attention from its failures on the battlefield.
