Vinh Loi fishing festival
(BĐ) - On the morning of May 28 (April 10 of the lunar calendar), fishermen of Vinh Loi fishing village, including 3 villages: Vinh Loi 1, Vinh Loi 2, Vinh Loi 3 (My Thanh commune, Phu My district) held the Lang Hai Thanh Duong (Lang Tu Duong) fishing festival.

The festival takes place with traditional rituals imbued with the cultural identity of coastal fishermen in the worship of whales (whale, god of the South Sea), including: Checking the royal decrees of the Nguyen Dynasty kings), the provincial ceremony, welcoming the god of the South Sea into the palace, the ceremony to worship the god of the South Sea, the singing ceremony... In the rituals, there are performances of sword dance and paddle boat to serve the god.

The fishing festival in Vinh Loi fishing village is held annually to show gratitude to the god of the South Sea; to commemorate the ancestors who have contributed to the development of this land. Through this, fishermen also pray for national peace and prosperity, a bountiful fishing season, and a prosperous and happy life for the people.
In addition to the ceremony, Vinh Loi fishermen also contributed funds to organize the festival with men's and women's boat racing, tug of war, and sack jumping. On the nights from May 28 to June 1 (April 10 to 14 of the lunar calendar), the Nam Hai Lang Ong fishing village committee of Vinh Loi also invited the Nhon Hung opera troupe to perform for the people.

At Vinh Loi fishing village, there are currently two Nam Hai Ong Tombs, including: Nam Hai Holy Temple (Lang Ong Dai) and Lang Hai Holy Temple. According to tradition, fishermen hold two fishing festivals every year at Lang Ong Dai on the 10th day of the first lunar month and Lang Tu Duong on the 10th day of the fourth lunar month. Lang Hai Holy Temple was established in 1791 and currently preserves 5 royal decrees of the Nguyen Dynasty, including: 2 royal decrees of King Thieu Tri (in 1841), 1 royal decree of King Tu Duc (in 1847), 1 royal decree of King Dong Khanh (in 1885) and 1 royal decree of King Khai Dinh (in 1916).
