According to the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center, Institute of Geophysics (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), on the evening of December 3, an earthquake of magnitude 3.8 occurred in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province; no human or property damage was caused.
Specifically, the earthquake occurred at 21:15:21 (Hanoi time), with coordinates 14.976 degrees North latitude, 108.173 degrees East longitude, focal depth of about 8.1 km; natural disaster risk level 0.
Then, on the same evening, an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.5 and a focal depth of about 8.1km also occurred in the same area; causing no damage to people or property.
Earthquakes in Kon Plong district are considered by experts to be stimulated earthquakes, occurring frequently and continuously since 2021.
Director of the Institute of Geophysics, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, said that the earthquakes in this area have a magnitude of no more than 5.0, and although the earthquakes occur frequently, they are not at a level that warrants a warning. The Institute of Geophysics regularly informs the authorities and people in the area about earthquakes.
Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh recommends that when an earthquake occurs, people should hold on to a door frame or crawl under a table if they are in a building with a solid structure.
If you are outdoors, stay away from power lines and poles and move to an open area. If you are driving, try to pull over to the side of the road and stop.
