On July 1, a clip appeared on social media recording a fight at a snail restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City, causing a stir.
The owner of the clip, Mr. TN (living in Ho Chi Minh City) said that the incident happened on the evening of June 29, at the N. snail restaurant on Cao Dat street (Ward 1, District 5).
Snail restaurant staff assaulted and threatened to slash customers with weapons (Photo cut from clip provided by character).
Mr. N. said that at the time of the incident, a group of customers had a conflict with the staff over payment, so the two sides argued. Not long after, the two sides rushed into a fight, causing many diners to be scared and stand up.
"The staff of this restaurant are very thugs. That day, there was a huge fight and someone was injured," said Mr. N.
In the clip, there are about 10 employees wearing red uniforms, assaulting customers. Not only that, a young man also holds a weapon (suspected to be a machete) to threaten and curse customers.
The entire incident was filmed by witnesses and posted on social media. The clip attracted the attention of the online community. Many people said that this is a snail restaurant where many fights have occurred. In particular, in September 2022, the snail restaurant staff was accused of assaulting and destroying a customer's car.
Speaking to Dan Tri reporter, the leader of Ward 1 People's Committee (District 5, Ho Chi Minh City) said that the authorities have received the incident and are in the process of verifying and clarifying. "We have directed the local police to invite relevant people to the headquarters to clarify. The clip has just been posted so there is no specific information yet. When the specific information is determined, the authorities will report later," he said.
The hooligan behavior of small traders, restaurant owners, and service staff has been a long-standing issue. The consecutive incidents show many consequences from the use of spontaneous, untrained, and unprofessional labor by businesses.
Poor service attitude of many restaurants in Vietnam is probably not too strange. The story of restaurant owners scolding customers is not rare. But to the extent that threatening and assaulting customers has become a daily occurrence, it is not just a problem of behavior between service providers and service users.
Serving tables is inherently a job of contact and transaction between people, it is inevitable that there will be conflicts and contradictions. Especially in popular restaurants, large open streets, crowded with customers, "tantrums" often occur. In case the service staff also lack skills and training, it is difficult to handle arising situations.
Letting gangster behavior take root and permeate service business activities causes the nature and healthy business environment to change and distort. The incident continues to be a warning bell to managers and authorities about such gangster-like business activities.
