Vietnam's number 1 swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang continues to show his superiority over his competitors at the Asian age group swimming tournament taking place in New Clark City (Philippines).
After winning the gold medal and breaking the record in the 800m freestyle event, on the evening of February 27, Quang Binh swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang continued to shine in the 1,500m freestyle race for the 18+ age group when he surpassed his opponents from India, Thailand, Hong Kong and the host Philippines, finishing first and winning the gold medal.

The achievement of 15 minutes 24 seconds 69 that Nguyen Huy Hoang achieved broke the record of the 1,500 m event of the tournament (the old record was 15 minutes 34 seconds 80). However, this is not a good achievement for the number 1 swimmer of Vietnam. At the 32nd SEA Games, Nguyen Huy Hoang achieved a result of 15'11"24 and at the 19th ASIAD, he had an impressive result of 15'04"06. This is an event in which Nguyen Huy Hoang has not yet met the standard for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Also on the second day of competition of the Asian age group swimming tournament, Tran Hung Nguyen won another gold medal in his specialty event 400 m medley for the age group of 18 and above. A young talent of the Vietnamese swimming community with a very impressive performance is Duong Van Hoang Quy. Competing in the age group of 12-14, Hoang Quy consecutively won 2 gold medals in the 400 m medley and 200 m butterfly events. Notably, he broke the 200m butterfly record for the 12-14 age group with a time of 2 minutes 03 seconds 54 (old record 2 minutes 06 seconds 65).
14-year-old talent Duong Van Hoang Quy (middle) is full of promise for the future.

At the end of the second day of competition, the Vietnamese swimming team won 4 more gold medals, thereby winning a total of 8 gold medals after 2 days of competition. This year's tournament lacked top swimmers from Japan, China, Korea, Singapore, etc., so it opened up opportunities for Nguyen Huy Hoang and his teammates as well as other countries and territories to compete for high achievements. This tournament is not in the group of registered tournaments to count towards the 2024 Paris Olympics.
